Highly Recommended!!
Edited May 22, 2025I am so pleased with this Dynatrap! It really is whisper quiet which makes for a relaxing atmosphere out on the patio! After one day there were more critters in there than expected! (See the photo inside the basket) Of course most are moths, but there are mosquitoes in there too!! I experimented by placing a glue board in the basket, hoping to reduce the chance of live insects flying out after opening it for emptying, but it happened anyway. Live and learn. 🤷 So far, I highly recommend the Dynatrap! It is a quality product. Worth your money! And best of all it looks like a very nice lantern. Form AND function.....The Designer in me is satisfied! 🙂Note: Take heed on the recommended distance to place it away from gathering areas. In my photos, it was placed about 15 feet from the patio table and we became a snack for critters making their way to the trap. 🤦 So we placed it around, and 12 feet away from, the corner of the same structure in the photos. We live in a century home and we're limited with placement due to the location of the electrical outlet, (Think very long, heavy-duty extension cords 😅) but it was still effective last year. I'm very happy! 🙂

WORKS!!
We were having a severe mosquito issue this year. Bought this for the chicken run and after 3 days the population was reduced significantly, after 3 weeks we barely have any at all. Also works to catch moths so after a few weeks we no longer have any tomato hornworms either!

Absolute waste of money
I never write product reviews, but if I can stop at least one person from purchasing this device, then I will have done a good deed. This did absolutely nothing to help address the mosquito issues in my back yard. ABSOLUTELY. NOTHING.I followed the directions. I placed it in the furthest corner of the yard (which is only 25 sq ft at most) on a garden hook. I left it plugged in for about 6 weeks, routinely checking it for bugs, as I saw other reviewers write that they had to empty theirs every few days. While it did catch a few bugs (at most 5-6), they were just moths and beetles. Not a single mosquito was in the trap. For a device that cost so much, I was expecting it to do SOMETHING. I guess you can call me a sucker. The ONLY positive of this Dynatrap purchase is that I have an outdoor extension chord already available. I did a ton of research and learned that the only way to stop mosquitoes biting you is by using outdoor fans. Apparently mosquitoes are poor flyers (especially the Asian Tiger, which is what plagues me) so any wind just messes with their ability to get to you. I took the stupid Dynatrap down, put it back in the box, and plugged in a big box fan. I have it pointed in my direction any time I'm out here and, honestly, it does the trick.FWIW, I also treated my back yard with Wondercide twice and planted citronella, lantana, lemon thyme and lemongrass plants. I burned citronella incense and always wore insect repellent. I also focused on removing and/or treating all standing water and wet soil. None of that made a difference except the box fan. Good luck to the rest of you - I hope my advice helps!

Bugs beware
This is the third one of these we have purchased and have up in our house. We appreciate the way the catch any little bug that comes in rather it is a gnat or a fly or moth it is attracted to the light and soon gets trapped inside. They are pretty, for bug catchers, and we bring them out every summer when the little flying creatures start flying around. If you have irritating flying things, you need one of these.

Poor Electrical Connector; Only Suitable for Covered Area
A friend recommended these. We bought one of the 1/2 acres versions, and liked it so much, we bought a second 1/2 acre and this 1/4 acre. They do capture a lot of moths and hopefully mosquitoes, and it is easy to empty the capture tray on the 1/2 acre. It is annoying to empty THIS 1/4 ACRE version.Just note that the 1/2 acre version has a much more robust cord that the 1/4 acre. I wouldn't buy the 1/4 acre again for anything, it's power supply is cheaply made and you have to use a power adapter for it, so you can't really use it out of door, or at least only on your covered patio.

Very effective
The media could not be loaded. Bought this for my porch to sit it under the table. We have a type of Mosquito that likes to bite your ankles. We have large zappers along the perimeter and wanted something quiet that catches the ankle biters not getting zapped by the big zappers so you can enjoy the porch. Hard to see how many got caught in the first night but it's about half of the bucket. They are alive for the most part so its a bit shocking to push back the baffle and tons of mosquitos come zooming out. Crazy good system. Will be turning it off during the day to let the caught ones die or maybe dunk the basket. Does exactly as I wanted. We'll see how well it holds up over time.

Works great
I hooked mine up and it took about a week, and now it's rare to see a mosquito in my yard. 100% worth it. I have tried everything else and nothing worked. It is so quite I wasn't sure it was working.

Buy the better model, not the more economical model.
After just over two (2) years of use I discover that the bulb in this unit is NOT replaceable by the buyer. Now the problem is the advertising states a 20,000 hours life. Advertising also states users should expect to the trap run 24/7. 20,000 hours divided by 24 hours per day equals 833 days of continous use, i.e. 24/7 operations. However, I unplugged mine on October (Halleen) and stored indoors. On April 1 I brought it out of storage and plugged it back in.So, I got about two (2) years of use (about 2 years give or take) that, yes, did seem to help our patio area. So, yes, I am disappointed that I cannot replace the bulb but, $36 divided by 2 years is only $18/year. Will I buy another one, yes but, this time I'll make sure I buy a newer model that can have the bulb replaced.THIS IS A GOOD PRODUCT THAT WORKS AS EXPECTED.
