In terms of simple physics, these should work to split stone. Maybe they do, but they surely don't work on granite of any size.

These work well splitting limestone (relativity soft) block that was 72" long X 12" deep. Drill all the way through the block for best success, chip or cut notch between holes (on each side if you can) to further improve odds of a good cut. Only use a small hammer (I used an old framing claw hammer) and only tap on each wedge down the length of the cut and repeat until the block splits. Slow and steady. Listen to the sound of the wedge, the note will change when the rock starts to split.

These bigger ones are working MUCH better than the 5/8" ones we had. They are holding up much better also. Able to split huge 2000-5000lb rocks with almost perfect shape with 9 of these. But I plan to get 6 more so that we have 15 for even better shape when not following a natural seam. The 1 inch holes are not any harder to drill than the 5/8 inch holes as far as I can tell. But struggling with too small of wedge is much harder.

These work OK, but the metal is kind of soft, so bends too easily, especially with a bigger sledgehammer.I'd have preferred something stronger, especially considering the price.

Excellent buy; reusable, but already have a hammer drill and one inch concrete bit. The only real option for less than 6 inch concrete splitting. Over that depth I would have went with the chemical expansion splitters.
