A wonderful introduction to the Runes
If you are looking for a great book to get your feet wet, so to speak, this is a wonderful place to start. I have utilized the Runes since the early 80's and have collected any and all volumes on the subject. Whilst they all contain mostly the same thing, every once in a while I find a book that throws a little bit of its own spin. This is such a book. I found it an easy read, though I would have liked just a bit more mythology in here. That being said, I am a voracious fan of mythology and too much would be a distraction for the beginning Runester. So to fill the niche that this book is targeting, it has the right amount. I found the prose not dry and academic, but instead a personal dissertation of one's own experience in working with the Runes. This was refreshing to me as there are too many books on this subject that just seem dead. This author has captured his personal journey and I was quite pleased to see similar experiences akin to my own. Do I recommend this book? I ABSOLUTELY recommend it.

Informative and entertaining
I loved this book! It’s packed with content about every single rune and how to use them. I found the bindrune section particularly helpful

Good info, a little preachy
This book is full of all the information you could need or want about runes. It gives history, types of divination and more. I'm glad I picked this one as my first book to learn about this topic, but it does have a downside. Although this book offers everything I was looking for it was also preaching about the norse religion. Spoiler: runes came from odin in norse mythology, and because of this the author gets a little preachy about thanking Odin, leaving offerings for him and summoning his presence/blessing by chanting his name. I don't follow the norse gods, so this was a little off putting, but the rest of the book has great info. I can look past that for the rest of the information, but if you have a hard time ciphering out the information you're looking for then this may not be the book for you.

Indepth details
I like how it goes a little indepth of each runes and they backstory and what they represent individual and as a bindrune.

Runes for Dummies (lol)
Don't get your skirt ruffled my little snow flakes. You're not dummies. However, Mr. Simonds lays the very basics out in such a way that those even challenged on reading would be fine to understand. It's an excellent piece of work and an excellent introduction into a very deep pool

Very informative
He Made understanding the runes incredibly easy and he also put in extra information from how to pronounce them, their meanings, history and stories/legends they have come from. He also includes how to use them in changing or inscribing magic.Overall I found it very helpful as someone who barely knew anything about the runes besides them being Nordic and a form of divination.
