No bike-touring book will have everything, but this one is probably as close as you will find.
I'm thrifty, so buying this was a bit of a tough call, as A) I've already done some adventure rides and B) I already own the first edition, purchased prior to biking from Istanbul to Egypt in 2007. Did I really need this 2015 edition? The answer is yes. I'm planning to head out this year... somewhere, and this book is a valuable resource to evaluate regions, contemplate upgrades, you name it. To provide everything everyone needs, it would need to be a thousand pages; it isn't. But it's a valuable resource nevertheless. Ride on!

A necessary read if you are dreaming of bike touring.
With a few items somewhat dated, almost a decade later, this book is still core reading. Seminal.

Not only for beginners, but will take cyclist to the next level...
In my journey from competitive cyclist to a more sensible approach and use for the bicycle, at least for me, I have researched and read many treatises about the enjoyable past time of touring by bicycle. The third edition of Adventure Cycle-Touring Handbook has been a Goldilocks experience for me. The guide not only provides easy soft beginning information for the novice, but also ascends to the mountain pass level of story about the real world hard experiences of many different travelers and adventurers. The list of contributors reads like a who’s who of touring cyclist many I have already read and enjoyed. If I were to only suggest one guide for a touring cyclist the Adventure Cycle-Touring Handbook would be it.

Good stories.
Inspiring stories and information for cycle touring. Gives me good ideas for trips. But without specific maps or directions. Great stories, and some I wouldn't do myself!

Kindle version missing most Photos
This is a brilliant book....in Paperback Form.....6 stars. But the Kindle version is stripped of 3/4 of it's images and photos. Of the few images left they are stuffed at the front and back of the book. The photos and maps that are there are thankfully high resolution. There should be a warning that this is an Abridged version of the original book. So 1 star for Kindle version and 6 for paper back version. Buyer beware!
