Excellent Product For Boosting Serotonin Levels In The Brain
If you are low in Serotonin, this is an excellent product for you. You might wonder why it is a bit pricier than other 5-HTP products by companies like Jarrow or Doctor's Best (both excellent products, by the way). And that is because this one contains one of the important co-factors (vitamin B6) needed to properly absorb the 5-HTP. But wait - it gets better - the B6 in this product is methylated, which means it is completely bio-available. Since some of us cannot create the methyl molecules needed to absorb certain B vitamins (B6, B12, and Folic Acid), taking those in methylated form is a huge advantage.The body creates Serotonin (a neurotransmitter) from tryptophan, found in turkey, eggs, soybeans, dairy products, and seeds and nuts. But some of us don't produce enough, or nerve cells are unable to receive the serotonin after it is synthesized. This actually works!
I've suffered from insomnia for many many years. I have hashimoto's thyroid disease, low progesterone and adrenal insufficiency. I also carry the MTHFR genetic mutation and am homozygous for C677T. So, I have some issues that I've been dealing with.I used to be able to fall asleep but was unable to stay asleep. I only slept 90 minutes at a time and then when I woke up, I would be up for over an hour before I could fall back to sleep. Then in the last year, I've had trouble falling asleep as well. I tried everything. I tried magnesium glycinate, melatonin, benadryl, ashwaganda, several products from health food stores, gaba....you name it, I've tried it. My doctor tried to shove anti-depressants on me but I'm not depressed. I just cannot sleep!Enter 5-HTP. Wow. As a last resort, I tried this supplement. It's not cheap, but it is the first thing that has worked for me. It took me taking 4-6 pills per day for a month and now I have actually been able to sleep 4-5 hours straight! That is unheard of. It's like a miracle. And, I notice I am dreaming too. I don't think I was ever getting into a deep enough sleep to dream before, but the 5-HTP seems to be helping me get a better quality of sleep in addition to helping me sleep.I wish this wasn't so expensive though as you can quickly go through a bottle in less than a month and if you take 6 pills per day you can run through the bottle in two weeks. I am going to back off to 3 pills per day and then 2 and see if I can still sleep. If I can't, I will have to go back to the higher dosage. I like Thorne Research products and I also take 5-MTHF for the MTHFR mutation as well as selenium. Thorne's products are always high quality.
