I love my set but beware you need a honey super to go with it. This is just the brood box for the queen and the hives honey and home. I bought 2 honey supers to go with it I’ve only got one honey super on the brood box now and it seems to be doing great. I painted it and my bees are doing great and love their new home

This is a great BEGINNERs kit for beekeeping but as you get more advanced (and if you want to collect any honey) you'll need additional products-- most important to buy with this pack is 1) a queen excluder, 2) extra brood boxes and frames.It's great that it comes fully assembled- super easy to set up outside.Beekeeping takes a lot of knowledge to do successfully so I would buy this package WELL in advance of when you want to purchase bees and start a colony. Also would read the book, it's very helpful. Additionally, it may be worth purchasing a veil/jacket combo. This veil works well but could be better.

I stained it and sprayed it with clear coat. My bees love it. Easy to use and pretty much came pre assembled.

Nice kit however I gave it to my father for Father's Day & he just got bees & he says the smoker does not work. Very disappointing for the price.

Completely misleading - I would say fraudulent - kit. The box does not contain the parts shown on the side and it is NOT a complete beekeeping kit. Once you open the box (which is badly packaged and arrived with cracked wooden parts to my hive) you will see a piece of paper that tells you to buy TWO MORE boxes in order to “raise bees and harvest honey”. In other words, this kit gets you exactly nowhere if your desire in buying it is to have a “complete beekeeping kit”. Save your money and get it somewhere else.Things it does not include that are essential elements of a Langstroth hive and included in the picture on the side: honey super, queen excluder, upper deep, hive stand.

A few good basics but some heavy qualifiers.Sticky mat for monitoring varroa is misleading, useless, and outdated. Relying on this as a mite measure will cause you to lose your colony, so beware.Beekeeping for Dummies is a great book in all aspects except mite issues. They have a "you could or could not" approach to medicating for mites, when medicating is the only way to keep your colony alive. It's like a parenting book that says "vaccines are optional." Again, beware.The black bee feeder is just going to drown your bees and make a mess. The board man jar feeder will result in your hive getting robbed and you getting unnecessarily stung. Don't.Brood box (the hive deep) is good. Smoker is fine. Veil works. Gloves are sturdy. It should have really come with Apiguard, Oxalic Acid vaporizer, feeder tray, etc instead of the crappy cheap feeders that hurt your hive.Consider a different package, and never substitute a book for a good mentor or beekeeping club. Believe me, I learned it the hard way. Bees are not cheap, and it's sad to lose them.
