Just to be clear, I am reviewing The Bottom Line 60 wt, 2-ply thread from Superior. This thread was recommended on some of the needle turn applique videos I have been watching so I decided to try it. I'm pretty new to this kind of fine needle turn applique and really had no idea what kinds of needles or threads I should be using. I did know that my practice efforts were less than satisfying and now I know it's mostly because I wasn't using the right tools. In sewing, just as in anything else worth doing, it is absolutely essential to have the right tools and materials if you want good quality results. This thread is giving me fantastic results, with just a little experience using it. I've never used such fine thread before. This is like sewing with a piece of fine hair. My applique stitches are virtually invisible, which is exactly what I want in applique. The thread glides right through the fabric and does not knot or tangle. I love it! I should mention that I am also using Bohn size 11 applique needles. I was having to use a needle threader with them, but The Bottom Line thread is so fine that I can easily thread the needle without the aid of the needle threader. I'm so glad I happened on this thread. It makes all the difference in the world!

So Fine 50 wt is the best for piecing and quilting on a longer machine. No fuzz. Strong. So Fine by Superior threads get an A+ from me.

This is about the only thread I ever want to use for most purposes in my quilting. First and most importantly it produces zero lint! When I use any other thread I am always astounded by the volume of lint and the frequency I have to clean my thread race and bobbin assembly. Other threads feel like string to me now!This thread also makes the absolute finest, flattest seams. Who knew what a difference that would feel like?! No other thread gives a seam this flat. And forget that old school trope about how polyester thread will cut your fabric! Has that ever really happened to you? It never has for me and my quilts have been seen and handled by hundreds of people in shows all over the country. You can test this simply with a pull test. How hard must you pull to break this thread compared to breaking the same size cotton thread?And of course it is designed for bobbins so you can load your bobbin with at least 50% more thread and stitch away longer.Probably my favorite use is for needle turn appliqué. The thread has the slightest twist that gives it just a bit of grab and prevents the ends from slipping out of their hiding places. It is also less shiny than silk and so doesn’t show as easily. I have also used 100 wt silk extensively but the ends slip out more easily and it shows more because of the sheen if you are not meticulous.Bottom line? Bottom Line is the best!! for lots and lots of reasons.

I have been quilting for 5 years and have learned that the bobbin thread is super important. This thread works well for me - it doesn't produce any lint and the tension seems good despite what I'm using as top thread.
