Q: Do you have to take the bouquet apart?

You can dry the bouquet as a whole. Please, use an air-tight sealed container and soak the bouquet with silica gel completely. Also, be very gentle when you soak the flowers with the silica gel beads and when you remove the flowers after they are dried not to break them. Please, wait 7-10 days for the bouquet to dry. Q: What makes these special for drying flowers? Why not use regular silica gel?

These are powder type of silica gel compared to regular 2-4 mm size silica gel beads. You need to completely soak the flowers with the beads. Also, be very gentle when you soak the flowers with the silica gel beads and when you remove the flowers after they are dried not to break them. Powder makes it easier for you to soak flowers and to remove them. Also, delicate flowers won't break as you try to remove them with powder. Thank you.

No, they only contain white silica gel powder. Silica gel beads are white in nature. White beads tested the best in performance compared with colored beads. I tried to use this to dry a smaller one and half the bouquet rotted, the rest was squashed, so I don't know that I'd go this route.
