Buck B501 Squire Lock Knife

Q: where is this knife made?

Don't know if this will help, but here is what I know. I own 3 501's , the oldest about 4 years old, the newest about 2 years old. All of them have "Made in USA" stamped on the blade near the pivot. However, among my 25 Bucks of other model numbers I found 3 Bantam models that were "Made In China" (all about 2 - 4 years old). I also found another Buck which was " U.S. Made of U.S. and Imported Parts". I was enlightened myself after examining my own collection, and hope this info helps you. rln

Q: Does the blade jiggle both open and closed? I just received mine and it jiggles a little

I have an older 501. I noticed it had a little slop or wobble when open so I wrapped the bolster on the blade end with a cloth then put it in a vise. I tightened the vise until the wobble was gone. I applied pressure only on the pivot point. It didn't seem to have harmed the knife at all. And the blade isn't any harder to open so I'm pleased with the result.

Q: Are the handles on this one really rosewood? according to buck's site, the 501 has "dymalux red wood" handles (whatever that is).

It looks like real rosewood to me. And I don’t really know what ‘dymalux red wood’ is. It’s possible that dymalux is a simulated rosewood, especially in light of recent bans or restrictions on importing exotic woods, that guitar & gun makers were faced a couple years ago, that forced them to use simulated woods made from composites or environmentally sound domestic woods. My guess is that Buck faced the same restrictions.
