Banners for Worship (Concordia Banner Craft) Paperback – September 1, 1990

I have used this book for many years and made many banners. Sometimes I use the designs illustrated or other times just the letters for self-designed banners. To use the letters, I first prepare the fabric I want to cut them out of with iron-on backing. I then make a copy to the size I want the letters. I cut them apart, and using removable glue, I adhere them right to the fabric and then cut both layers out. I remove the paper and iron the letters onto the banner background. The same process works for other design features.This book is much more helpful than other banner design books I have seen.

This book is the bible for learning how to make a banner from its beginning and also allows for personal creativity. It is open to using any newer products now available for making the task easier and quicker. I have seen banners from this book in churches throughout the world and marvel how each banner-maker has added a personal touch with the choice of colors and fabrics or changes in the design itself. Creativity is encouraged. This book is great for teaching symbolism and their meanings and may be used for teaching with visuals. I have seen the designs used on bulletin boards, banners, stained glass windows and teaching materials. This book is a great resource for every church and Christian school.

I was a little disappointed that the patterns are two to a page rather than one per page. Other than that, this is exactly what I was looking for as a new banner maker. The instructions give several options for making the banners. There are so many different patterns that can be used for a variety of church seasons and special services. You could use a picture with different words if you wanted to. The variety of lettering in the book is also wonderful. Several styles to choose from to make your banner a work of art.

I was so very pleased with this book as well as Carol's "Quick and Easy Banner Designs." There are no duplicate patterns in this book, so don't think that if you order both you're going to get more of the same - you're not. More very high quality designs that provide basis for multiple banners if you mix and match the elements. The symbology is supurb and you might consider leaving off the words and letting the Spirit speak through the symbol as it will.Again - can't recommend it enough. Covers the seasons very well.

This book is not for inexperienced sewers. The patterns are fairly complicated

I have another book of patterns for banners by Carol harms and I will say again, no one surpasses her for content, the manner in which it is presented and the ease of construction. She makes it easy to find an appropriate banner for each type of church event and season. I hope she keeps these wonderful books coming. She really understands what makes a banner meaningful.

This book came quickly and in great condition. It was just what I was looking for. It gives lots of advice for making church banners from start to finish, gives pictures to show the finished product (not in color), which time of year is best for which banners, lettering samples to use...I have made 4 of these so far and plan to make more. I have also purchased another book by this same author. What would make it even better, would be colored pics of completed banners.

Simple, eye-catching designs for any church. Great to adapt for ones own themes and purposes. Great resource to have on hand for a long time.
