As good as auto wahs costing many times the price
This wah/filter pedal is amazing value. I previously used a Mad Professor auto wah which was great but cost an arm and a leg. This little Donner isn't quite as flexible but then it is about a seventh of the price and is certainly versatile enough for my modest wah needs. The pedal doesn't seem to add any noticeable noise to the signal chain and doesn't seem to affect tone when bypassed. I have it on a compact pedalboard before a distortion, an overdrive and then an old Zoom G3 that I use for modulations, delays and noise gating. The whole setup works brilliantly together and the Donner wah takes up next to no space on my board. It's solidly built, weighty and looks durable. The only things that may be just a tiny bit vulnerable are the small knobs that are pretty standard for pedals in this mini format but they should be fine so long as I don't stomp right on them. Also standard for this smaller pedal format is the lack of an on-board battery power option: compact pedals are usually intended to be used with a power supply.Paint job aside, this looks physically pretty identical to the Mooer equivalent and a number of other similar pedals from lesser known brands. Not surprising as so many products are now made in a small number of factories who brand them up under many names we know well. You could, very likely, buy exactly the same pedal and pay twice as much just for a different name and paint finish. The sounds are easily adjustable and really impressive. It takes a while to dial in the sensitivity etc for different pickups and guitars, but once you get a feel for it, the range of wah effects available is very good as is the overall sound quality.I'm delighted with the pedal. So much so that, even though I don't really need any more FX I'm looking for an excuse to get a couple more of the pedals in this series just for fun.

Best Budget Auto-Wah!
I've been after an Auto-Wah/Envelope Filter pedal for some time, and have tried a number of other brands such as Boss and Mad Professor, both of which were excellent but expensive and none of which seemed as easy as the Donner pedal to dial in a usable filter sound that is comparable to using a manual wah pedal. The Donner Mini Auto Wah/Dynamic Wah features four controls: A large Range Knob to Adjust the filter frequency range and three small knobs: Sens, Res & Decay which respectively control Sensitivity, Filter Sharpness and how quickly the filter frequency falls back to the resting point. Pedal is a sturdy metal construction and like nearly all mini-pedals has no battery facility and is powered by to a standard Boss style centre negative 9v power supply (not included). Its worth spending time experimenting with the settings of each of the controls as they can have a dramatic effect and I found the Ses control in particular is very responsive to your personal playing style. However with some experimentation I was able to set the pedal to very closely mimic the effect of a Dunlop mini cry baby pedal with the following approximate settings: Range - 10 o'Clock, Sens- 10 o'Clock, Res - 3 o'Clock, Decay - 10 o'Clock. All in all I can't fault this pedal for value for money and quality of effect and in my experience is probably the best budget Auto-Wah on the market with a price in the £20-£25 range. Its longevity will have to be assessed after a few months of use, but with metal casing and a sturdy on/off switch I'm not anticipating any problems, especially as I only use wah for a few songs in a live set.
