Best Guitar Pedal I have ever owned... and I have owned a LOT of them.
I now own two of these and have them both hooked up to a boss es-8 (total overkill for my normal usage! lol). Anyway these two pedals have replaced countless other pedals on my board. I really can't heap enough praise on the quality of tone I get from these pedals. The EQ/Comp and reverb algorithms alone add a lot of polish to my mostly solo acoustic sets...not to mention some killer ambient effects from spacetime and delay.. subtle effects for me, but I love the tones. Amazing power in this pedal. However, I do have 1 small gripe. The H9 Control app that comes with it will recognize both pedals on my iPhone, but from OSX it mostly only works with one pedal at a time which can be annoying when you are trying to dial in an overall sound from both pedals. I say mostly because there have been times the app has allowed me to see both pedals simultaneously. In any event I really can't speak highly enough about this pedal. Running two allows you almost unlimited power... I used one for about a year and loved it, but alway's wanted to access more than one effect at a time.... If you can swing it get a core and a max and then share the algorithms. :)

The Last Pedal You Will Ever Need (Maybe)
I bought this thing for the world-famous harmonizer and was pleasantly surprised by the amazing variety of delays, modulations, and pitch shifting effects. The factory presets make an excellent starting point for getting the specific sound I am looking for and the Bluetooth connection to my iPad makes it simple to edit the presets on the fly. This little white box deserves a spot on everybody's pedalboard and is worth every penny. I particularly like the fact that all future upgrades will be free.

The harmonizer is amazing. Everything is amazing
This pedal is expensive, but it is totally worth it. The quality of the effects are stunning. The harmonizer is amazing. Everything is amazing.I LOVE that it has an iPad/iPhone app, but I would really want Eventide to update the app to support multitasking on the iPad. If I could use Forescore and the H9 controller at the same time.......it would be even more amazing.

Review revisited......
I originally wrote a negative review on the Eventide H9 Max after using it for a few hours after receiving it. The following morning after I wrote the review, I made another attempt to work with the unit just to verify my thoughts before I returned it. Fortunately, after learning how to steamline my tweaking of various effects, I began to see that the unit was, in fact, worthy of keeping. My apologies for jumping the gun with a negative review.

I user with Missing Link preamp. I also have ...
I use with Missing Link preamp. I also have timefactor and a v4.I only run H9 through it, the other effects are in mixing board.I found the software buggy, I often have to reboot.Sounds seem updated from v4, easier to use than v4.I like to chain shimmer with reverb and echo on the other 2 units.I found it a bit hard to tweak without wireless software, I usually need to reboot if I use software editor.MIDI will stop working. All of them are way different (timefactor, v4, h9)V4 being the hardest to understand.V4 is the best hardware value but they don't update the software much.So h9 might be best value from Eventide, it already had 2 updates

OK, but didn't quite work for me
The good:* The BEST spring reverb I have heard on planet Earth.* Overall very transparent. Great sound quality (with some exceptions, see other comments below)* Simple and easy to work with - combined with the iOS app - yet very flexible* Compact and convenient - fits on any pedalboard* Good bang for the buckWhy I returned this pedal:* The pedal I got produced unacceptable amounts of noise in PRE/POST with the 4 cable method. This was exactly how I intended to use it. Eventide customer service was not particularly helpful. I was told that this is what it is and nothing can be done.* You can not combine algorithms in one pedal, instead you have to purchase a second H9. Not too crazy about this idea.* Being an Eventide I expected the harmonizer and octave divider effects to be the best. Not too impressed with the sound - it was too digital to my ears. Tracking was not too exceptional either. Later I got an EHX POG2, which is limited in its functionality compared to the H9, but I am happy to say it sounds much more organic. That being said, I didn't hate this pedal, it just didn't work for my purposes. If you are willing to get a second one, that would be a great solution - but then the whole idea about budget (you'd be getting into FX8 territory, which completely kills the H9 imho) and compactness would be defeated. If you don't care about the above concerns and just want to use the H9 for a compact, easy to use and great sounding reverb, delay and an occasional effect or two, this is a killer unit.

The best little FX
I don’t think I’d want to use this without an ipad or iPhone, but with the app it’s so great. Time based FX are superb. Distortions don’t really sound that great to me, but that’s not why I bought it.

WARNING Bluetooth problems in some batches
The Eventide H9 pedal is a top tier product for the pedal board. Costing near $1k it's in an elite league that should make it's engineering on par with top end luxury products. Unfortunately, that is NOT what I experienced. Apparently there have been batches of H9 product with Bluetooth problems. To qualify this was not user error. I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 iOS device, a 2020 Windows 10 high-end PC with Bluetooth 4.2 support as well as a 2020 iPad. NONE OF THESE DEVICEs were able to successfully pair with the H9 due to the pin number not being correctly matched to serial. This is a production problem that is unforgivable on a super premium product like the H9 is positioned to be. Especially given that Bluetooth functionality is a requirement to utilize the device.Shame on Eventide.
