A defined difference in the air quality
I bought this Medify MA-40 2.0 Medical Grade Filtration H13, True HEPA Air purifier during the 2020 Corona Virus pandemic. We have 2 large dogs, a kid who is back from college early due to the pandemic and my wife is a nurse at a local hospital. But it was not only those items that pushed me in this direction. I always change the furnace filter regularly. The first floor of the house has carpeting in only one room. The second floor is mostly carpeted except for the master bedroom which has an area rug that extends out a little beyond the bed. It was when I was in the hallway one morning and our sons bedroom door was open, and so were the curtains. The sun was shining in. As I looked towards that window, in the suns rays, I was astonished to see all the airborne particles/dust/or whatever. It just did not spell healthy air inside my home as far as I was concerned. I can tell you that at that point, for me, that Corona Virus Pandemic or not, I didn't like what I was seeing at all and I was going to do something about it. I kept thinking how it seems like every winter, that winter cough seems to stick around, once it starts, for the rest of the heating season. So I started looking on line. I saw several different manufacturers and models on line. There were lower cost models and there were higher cost models as well. for myself, I determined this was the one that I wanted to try. So I cannot tell you whether this model is just right, overkill or insufficient but I can tell you this. I first started it up and ran it on the first floor after I opened the package when I came home from work. Within a couple hours, I felt that I could tell a difference. I asked my wife what she thought. She was a little on the fence about it but felt a little something different. That night, when we went to bed, I took it upstairs and ran it in the hallway (leaving all of the bedroom doors open. The next morning, I left it in the upstairs hall when I left for work. When I got home, and headed up the stairs, there was a defined point at which the air quality was so noticeably different. Again I asked my wife if she noticed the difference. This time, there was no hesitation. She agreed that it was definitely better air quality upstairs. So you may be thinking is this guy going to order a second one so that he has one on both floors. I would like to, but I am going to save for it. I might even try one of the lower cost ($99) models I had seen just to see if spending that extra money is worth it.Sound - So I do not operate it at the highest fan level, in part, due to the sound. The level that I have it is the lowest level you can have and have the ionizer on the system working at the same time. So the whisper mode, I cannot comment on because I don't use it. I could see it still being a little loud for some people though. My wife commented that she had woken up during that first night and she thought the sound was the water running.Recommendation: At this point, I can say that this thing really has made a difference, I feel difference breathing, already coughing less, and I am not compromised in any way so I have no reason not to recommend it. If I end up buying a lower cost unit and it works as well, I will try to update.Maintenance - Filter replacement cost does look pretty high (I think I saw $69 for the filter). It will be interesting to see how often I find that it needs to be replaced. Unless the lower cost model does an equally good job I will bite the bullet and replace the filtersI hope this helps if you are considering buying one! Good luck on your decision

Perfect for the space, I need it
So far I believe that it is working well. My bedroom does smell neutral for the most part. Not having any specific allergens since my wife is asthmatic. I wasn't really sure as to how loud this would be cuz even on the low setting it seems to be moderately loud. I don't know if that's normal for this unit, however, I've never had a large unit like this. I always had the smaller desktop versions. Otherwise I don't see any problems as of right now. I am happy with the purchase

READ THE MANUAL !!
First, I researched HEPA based air purifiers and this unit is clearly well designed. Just one thing.... the HEPA filter in the purifier comes sealed in a plastic bag. The filter is behind an access cover and there is NO WAY YOU WOULD KNOW.I ran my purifier for 2 months completely ignorant that the filter was not working. The REPLACE FILTER light was NOT on. I just happened to pull of the access panel one day and saw that the filter was sealed in a plastic bag! There was no sticker on the unit saying: "HEY IDIOT. REMOVE THE BAG FROM THE FILTER BEFORE USE".Other than that everything's great.

Clean Air Is Important to Me
I've had allergies for years now. That and the Covid pandemic made me search for a good air purifier to provide healthier, cleaner indoor air and possibly provide me with some token piece of mind. After much searching for something that could purifier a large room I went with the Medify Air MA-40.I wanted something that could potentially filter particles as small as 0.1 microns. The medical grade HEPA filter in this unit claims to do that. The air ionizer is a bonus zapping larger particles like pollen and dust out of the air.I haven't had any social gatherings at my house since the pandemic began. If I do, I would feel a little more confident about it running this purifier with a small gathering of a few guests for a short visit. The top of the unit has a touch-screen control panel that's very simple to use. There is a simple power button along with 4 speed setting button including Sleep mode. There are also 4 pre-set timers and a button to turn the Ionizer on or off.It isn't without sound but it is a bit quieter than I imagined at least on the lower settings. Sleep mode is especially nice if running it at night. I sometimes set a timer if I am cooking something that might leave an odor throughout the house or if I am leaving for a few hours. The filter is pretty simple to replace by pressing a few tabs at the back of the unit to remove the cover. Gently pull out the old filter being careful not to jostle it and disturb particles being held and re-releasing them back into the air. I usually place mine in a sealed garbage bag before disposing it in my exterior trash receptacle. Afterwards simply place a new one in the purifier. For safety make sure the purifier is OFF before removing the filter and to be even safer you should unplug the unit. Manufacturers guidelines suggest changing the filter every 3 - 6 months depending on frequency of use.UPDATE 02/24/21: I run my MA-40 daily and I am still satisfied with the results. I recently made an inquiry direct with Medify Air on this units capabilities and they have updated their website description of the units filtration capabilities as a result. From their website:"Medical Grade H13 Filters (higher rated than True HEPA) 99.97% particle removal. H13 True HEPA is considered medical grade air filtration, the unit alone is not a medical device."Take from this change in description what you will. I will continue to use mine daily.
