The notebook stays open and lays mostly flat (of course, t's not spiral-bound so it's not *perfectly* flat). You can rip out a page or two without making the whole thing fall apart. I docked a star for "sturdiness" because the binding stitches are slightly visible if you flip to the very first page, very last page, or perfectly in the middle. They're not loose or anything, but it's a teeny thing that I've seen done better. It's certainly not a deal-breaker though.COVERIt's not quite stiff enough to be a "hardcover", but it's definitely not a softcover. It's stiffer than a cereal box or a stack of post-its. if you hold it by the spine and wave up and down (so the pages are facing out), the cover will "waggle" and the pages will flutter a bit. Bottom line, it's stiff enough to write on if you don't have a desk.PAPERBasically, it's a real composition notebook, not one the cheapo ones you get at the dollar store. I am a very heavy-handed writer who writes in dark pencil (2B-4B), and I can still write in these without getting distracted by marks on the other side of the paper. If I fill a page with normal writing and then flip it over, I can't make out the words on the other side unless I squint really hard at it.Another thing is that the paper is very *slightly* water-resistant compared to plain old typing paper. If you have a good old-fashioned composition notebook, you can usually spill a drop of water on the paper without *any* consequences if you wipe it off quickly. This notebook passes the "drop of water" test - the paper doesn't immediately dissolve like tissue paper, or go transparent like typing paper.SPINEComposition notebooks typically have that black canvas-y material around the spine -- this one is no exception. If I look at the edges of that material where it's glued onto the cover, there's no evidence of "peeling" or fraying after a few months of use (which is what you want).I occasionally crease pages flat a bit when I write, which affects the spine's ability to pinch pages shut. After completely filling up the notebook, the spine does show some wear from this -- if I close the notebook, the front cover "floats up" just a little bit. I'd definitely still call it "closed", but there's enough of a gap that you can see the bottom line or two if you look at it from the right angle. This is pretty typical for me though, and will go away if I put something heavy on it for a day or two.PRINTED MATERIALS ON THE INSIDE COVERSI never use the inside cover "reference materials", but for some reason they like to print them, so here's what mine had printed inside:Front inside cover has a weird schedule table. Days of the week are listed vertically, and the horizontal axis is labeled "Time" with column numbers and a space to write in extra info. The "cells" in the table are almost square, roughly an inch on each side.Back inside cover has a 12x12 multiplication table, a "Conversion table" (which lists stuff like "1 gram = 1,000 mg"??), and some random "Grammar rules".

Good quality binding and paper. The colors are cheerful-summer school needs to be cheerful. :) These are standard-sized composition books, so they're smaller than a size of copy paper or notebook paper. Also, even though the bindings are separate colors, the paper inside the binding is white, lined paper. These composition books are exactly what I needed.

I've been looking for colored Composition Books which are hard to find in my local stores. I hesitated on getting these due to some reviews stating all colors weren't received. Luckily I did get all of them, they're just what I needed in cute colors. I'm very happy with my purchase!

I bought last time colored pages notebooks. For example: the blue cover had blue pages the yellow cover had yellow pages, and so forth with the green and pink. When I saw this particular set I thought it was going to be the same color as the cover. Needless to say, I was disappointed because of that feature, otherwise it’s just a notebook with white pages.

Love these notebooks, didnt find cute colors at the store and didnt want to get her all black ones. This was great.

These are the standard wide ruled composition notebook every middle schooler needs but they’re super cute colors instead of the basic black and white. My daughter likes the “vintage” look but the fun colors help her stand out stylishly.
