Broken Promises
The picture, sound, plot and acting were all very good. This is one of the better film noir movies my dh and I have seen and we have seen almost all of the better ones, we thought. Thankfully, there was still one more to watch and it was this one. It was easy to have mixed feelings at the end concerning the good/bad guy even though it was a logical conclusion. He was good, but just couldn't and wouldn't keep his word.

Streaming version is Pan & Scan
A note about the presentation in the streaming format: it is old-school Pan & Scan, like you used to see in the early days of videocassettes. Rather than presenting the full frame in a "letterbox" or widescreen format, the home video producers attempt to swing the focus of the picture back and forth to capture all the action in a full-frame scene. You'll see the camera jerk all the way to one side of the picture to reveal a person talking or bit of action. It's very jarring and disconcerting, and draws the viewer away from the story at hand. Pan & Scan is not used anymore, and hasn't been for some time, I'm guessing this is an old transfer.

Entertaining film with all the charm of the era and the conventions that make the gangster genre great
Entertaining film with all the charm of the era. If you're into the gangster genre, the rags to riches, the American dream, the power that corrupts, the rise and fall and its conventions, you'll like I, Mobster. Steve Cochran becomes larger than life and is surrounded by a talented group of actors and actresses. Though cunning and ruthless are the traits needed to handle his business, our protagonist Joe Sante never seems to lose his human touch.

Rags to Riches
A must see for Roger Corman fans. This is the second time I've seen Celia Lovsky as someone's mom. The gangster ( Steve Cochran) looks like Dan Lauria from the Wonder Years

Incorect FilmRatio Strikes Again!!
one of the lesser flix made about mobsters during the era of the hit TV show "The Untouchables" By the way the print is a godawful pan and scan of a film shot in "Cinemascope"

Very good classic mob movie
Very good classic mob movie. Audience at the time probably not savy enough to notice an Italian mother with a German accent.

Mobster
Spectacular movie in every way. One of those very few black and white movies that kept me glued to my seat and I didn't fall asleep too.
