Martins4

Three of my heroes and another I admire...The link is apparently that they all have Martin in their name. A better link is that they are on top of their game and have been for many years. They bounce off each other with their different styles, and even though Mssrs Carthy and Simpson have a similar folk heritage, it is the difference rather than the similarity in style and content that make this concert recording so special.

I've listened to this CD nearly non-stop over the last week since I got it. Its fabulous - apart from the terrible dirge on track 4 contributed by Martin Carthy where he sings about a glass of water, slightly off key, for most of the five minute track. I bought the CD because I love Simpson, Carthy and Taylor's guitar playing and wanted to hear something of Juan Martin but this track has spoilt an otherwise fantastic CD for me. I have always rated Martin Carthy as one of the greats but he sounds like a rank amateur in this company.

Actually saw Martins4 liveit was mesmerisingmost especially Juan Martin & Martin TaylorSimpson just about managed to hang in there, but Martin Carthy just a lightweight outclassed disaster, particularly with his need for a glass of water, I think most of the audience were prepared to turn the hosepipe on him - the dirge seemed to go on......... and on........ and ontruly dreadful and such a shame to pull the rest of the show down, would've cheerfully given 10 stars but for him
