I used a drill bit to put a small hole into the L-shaped frame. The frame, which is hidden, shows which end is up and high you need to put the screw in relation to the top edge. You will be drilling or screwing in the frame into the studs in the wall. I put a screw through and then used a level along the inferior edge of the hidden frame/support. Then, I inserted the screw to fasten the frame to the wall, through the stud. Next, you take two more screws that are provided and drill those through 2 pre-drilled holes.ConstructionBeautifully finished and cut with precision, this shows very well. It's a solid piece of wood with some bits of character in it. It's solid and stable. I have a deer antler stand that holds a Cherokee Tomahawk; so, I placed it onto my shelf. I also put two knives with snakeskin sheaths. It looks great.Joel's Antiques is definitely the way to go. I asked how it was going to be installed, and their customer service was excellent. If you can spring for real quality, you'll find it here. These shelves are the closest you'll find to permanent structures, as I'd love to take them with me if I move, but they are so large and so securely placed that I think it would be criminal to try to move them. I got the largest ones available and they are like smoothed out railroad ties on my wall. It's awesome. I'll add a photo soon.

We updated our fireplace during a remodel and needed a mantle. Most were 10" deep and 72" wide, which we felt was too large for our space. This mantle is perfect. The finish is beautiful- rustic but not beat up. The color is great. Our remodel crew installed it in minutes and it seems really sturdy. Awesome to find this beautiful American-made product. Highly recommended!!

Okay, I know we seem proud of our dog, and you're correct. However, this floating shelf is a beautiful addition to any house, especially those with fur everywhere. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! I'm fairly new with a drill and it wasn't too hard to install, but I missed a step and had to reference a YouTube video which corrected everything. Two screws in studs and two with anchors to hold this 48 inch one.

Outstanding and simple system for mounting to the wall. I called them with questions about mounting on brick and they could not be more accommodating. And we love the shelf! AND yes, it is as sturdy as they claim because of the mounting. The shelf itself is high quality and naturally "worn" but not too much...just the right balance. Would highly recommend this item to anyone considering it for their fireplace.

It is a very good looking piece. I was a little unsure about the included mounting system, but once up, the shelf is certainly solid. Very pleased

I ordered the 78 inch floating shelf in mocha. The quality and color were exactly what I had envisioned and looks great above my new gas fireplace, especially in contrast with the split stone panels I installed around the fireplace. I was a little skeptical when I felt the weight of the shelf and saw the mounting bracket but after installing it, it was surprisingly very solid and secure. I would have liked to have the option of special ordering a 79 inch shelf as that was the true length I needed, however, the half inch on either side is negligible and it still looks fantastic.

The shelf itself is beautiful, but the bracket should have come pre-drilled. I lost a screw and (2) brand new drill heads trying to install this shelf.

I LOVE our new mantel shelf! It looks perfect with our brick fireplace. I love the color, finish and knots on the wood. We have modern / industrial decor and this goes perfectly. It can actually go with any decor. We purchased the lighter color. Our handyman installed it for us today and I can't wait to decorate it, just in time for Christmas.
