Great coffee table book for children and adults
I saw this book at a "sports/outdoors" warehouse type store, thought it was INTERESTING, and spent a long time leafing through it while hubby shopped. As usual, he thought he could "find it CHEAPER online." I like that the RIGHT page shows the actual PHOTO of the animal print(s), the surrounding area, and a simple introduction to help the "animal tracker" get started observing and thinking. You can "play detective," and try to figure out WHAT animal left the "evidence" and HOW the prints were made--was the animal walking, sitting, lying down, rolling around, jumping up/down to the surface? TURN the page for the answer! The LEFT page shows the photo again w/ a hand-drawn IMAGE of the animal as it is "making" the print(s), and a brief description of the "proof." Both young and not-so-young CHILDREN and ADULTS can enjoy this book alone or together, using the TEXT or simply enjoying the PICTURES. You don't have to use the book to "develop deductive reasoning"--it's also a nice conversation starter for family and friends.

Good book to stimulate interest in nature
Not a track identification book, but stories that show photos of tracks and show the background story in illustrations. Very well done.

Good starter book to tempt you
A great book to tempt you to dive deeper into learning more. I recommend it for those who want to learn what tracking can mean outside of traditional hunting and trapping applications.

Just delightful!
Stories In Tracks And Sign: Reading the Clues That Animals Leave BehindI had such a good time reading this book! Each vignette starts with a picture and a paragraph wondering what could explain the scene. It really got my curiosity up. Then you turn the page, and it's all explained, with drawings added to the photographs, as well as text. The descriptions are quite sophisticated, but I also could see reading this to my nieces or nephews. I learned quite a bit. There are settings and animals from all over the world, though most are from the US.

Not bad for kids.
I bought this for my self but found it a little more simple than I expected. I gave it to my friend who is an environmental educator who works with elementary school students. She thought they would like it.

Easy Read With Good Info.
Thiis is an excellent book for the money, and well worth purchasing for the serious Tracking Student. Its advantage is that it has Tracking identification scenarios showing you how to go about attacking and analyzing both track and sign, and creating a possible scenario. It is a very quick read, which means that you can read it again and again to ingrain the procedures.A very good addition to a tracking library.

Applause for Stories in Tracks and Sign!
I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in tracking or just taking a more informed walk in the woods! The graphics are fantastic and really do a great job of showing how an animal moves. It works equally well for adult naturalists and kids. Once you open the book, you will want to go outside and see what you can find. (And it actually got our 8 year old nephew away from the video games.)

Awareness primer
This is a good book for a beginning student of the woods to start on the path of awareness. It was great for my child to get her interested in animal tracks and try to read the story that the tracks tell.
