Dr Zooch Mercury Redstone Freedom 7 T-50 tube,5/5/61 Alan Shepard's Freedom 7 markings. Skill Level 2 On May 5th, 1961 Alan Shepard climbed aboard this Mercury capsule that he had named "FREEDOM 7." On that morning he became America's first astronaut as he made a 15 minute sub-orbital flight down the Atlantic test range. He was also the second human to fly in space having been proceeded by Soviet, Yuri Gagarin just three weeks earlier. Now, a half century later, Dr. Zooch Rockets celebrates the flight of Freedom 7 with this kit. This kit is based on a T50 tube and is thus smaller than our T60 based Mercury Redstone, it also flies twice as high! The kit comes with everything you need to build the intricate escape tower... except the skill. So for those of you when are short on skill yet large on thumbs- it also comes with a paper escape tower that is much easier to make.
