Q: Does it have two separate compartments for storing the laptop and other office files and books?

Yes it does,and they are quite spacious.I have dell inspiron 17.3" laptop and it fits perfectly in the bag.In the second compartment i can keep two books(trust me they are thick and heavy),upto three notebooks,my laptop charger and an xbox-360 controller(sometimes i even shove my headphones in it) and it can withstand all that abuse :DThe Third compartment is for keeping your other small stuff like pens,usb drives.The only con in this bag is that the bottom of the laptop compartment has less amount of foam(or whatever stuff is used) which can be detrimental to the laptop if the bag accidently gets dropped.But you can fix that up by using some bubble wrap and putting it inside the compartment.I used the one which came with the bag's packaging.Other than that there is no other problem i faced with this bag.
