Impressive build quality and innovatve design
Impressive build quality, innovative design and excellent after sales service. I'm a 64 year-old stroke survivor with mobility challenges. I needed a powered wheelchair to allow me to get outside (always accompanied by my carer, I wouldn't recommend using it alone unless you want to rely on 'the kindness of strangers' to extricate you from any blind alleys). It takes a bit of practice to get used to the joystick. One tip is to hold it at the base of the joystick rather than the top. It fits naturally into the fleshy bit between your thumb and forefinger and avoids any jerky, exaggerated movements.TBH, it's a little bit snug for a chap of my size (W107kg/H185cm). I need an additional 75mm thick seat cushion to accomodate the length of my calves. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone bigger. It has the innovative design feature of being able to be folded down to reduce its width. It has two separate batteries and two motors. So it can be folded up for storage.Battery life is dependant on terrain and load (your weight) and one the of the characteristics of Li-Ion batteries is they give little warning of their imminent demise before conking out. It's only happened to me once on a steep slope outside a local Tube station but I learned my lesson and now I always put it on charge when I get home, no matter how short the journey. the row of little LEDs by joystick show how much life is left in the batteries but beware once the first one or two have extinguished. They are not 'linear'. Time to head for home.A neat feature is the ability to disengage the transmission and use it as a manual wheelchair, albeit a heavy one. This is useful for manoeuvring in tight spaces or when the occupant has vacated. Folding it is relatively easy and there are videos on the web (search for 'wheelchair88' on 'you know who'.The charger has lights to indicate the state of charge and if you keep your eyes on this, you're fine. Personally, I never leave a battery on charge in a room unattended (I grew up in the era of exploding laptop batteries). Better to be safe than sorry.Regarding after-sales service, as long as you stick to going through Amazon and don't try to 'short circuit' the system by contacting the supplier directly, it's very responsive and they won't stop until you're satisfied (and can give them a five-star rating!). One weak point (IMHO) is the design of the footrests. It took several interations to cure. One or the other footrests failed to latch properly and swung out. It wasn't a big problem because I could still use the wheelchair with a elastic bungee holding the two footrests together. My carer simply had to do some unpleasant bending. So it was a mere inconvenience for me (..ahem). Anyway, the supplier was responsive and there was no 'finger pointing' to others. It's all working fine now.
