very very VERY poor - free BT Home Hub is better
I am a bit of a Razer fanboy with all my wfh/gaming setup being Razer and hence thought adding this into the mix would be a good idea as it looks very smart. The first router was faulty (kept resetting itself every 30-45 mintes)The second unit seemed OK but the signal was very poor, worse than the free BT Home Hub - made sure it was uptodate, placed in a open spot, tried beamforming on/off, tried QOS and no better.Sent back, using BT Home Hub as less grieve from the familyVery disappointed in this :(

Good gaming router
This is a smart, fairly compact Mesh router with a focus on gamers with the aim of avoiding any network lag.To be honest, if you are a really serious gamer you'll probably want to use a wired Ethernet connection than anything using WiFi. Nonetheless the Razer model looks very smart with a single LED illuminated logo which reflects the network status and matt black case. The unit is packaged in an almost Apple-like way. Of course, though, for a single router, all of this is reflected in the cost. For me a key selling point is the Mesh capability of the router, but this is all irrelevant if you only have a single unit. Put simply there is nothing for the unit to mesh with! And the cost of the unit might preclude adding additional WiFi units. For some though this won't be necessary. Razer claim that the router will cover up to 3,000 square feet in optimal conditions. This is pretty meaningless as no house provides optimal circumstances - walls get in the way. Nonetheless, the unit has better reach than my single BT router, but that's not too much of a claim. The unit does have nine internal transmitters which help with WiFi reach which is surprising as the unit does not rely on any external antennas.Installation was as painless as it can be when dealing with networking. The system installed a firmware update and it was necessary for me to see the parameters for a BT setup. You will likely need to know whether you need a username and password set by your internet provider. There is an iPhone and Android app which helps with installation and managing the system. This allows most settings to be set within the app which is helpful rather than using a web interface. Installation look around 30 minutes including the download of the firmware update. Usefully the unit selects less crowded WiFi frequencies which setting up key connections to gaming machines. As you would expect the router broadcasts on all frequencies including AC. The app does allow the tuning of frequencies based on. overcrowding, again useful.Less positively the unit only has three LAN ports which will be inadequate for most users so you'll need to buy a port extension system which will impact on the minimalist looks of the Razer router itself. There are two USB connections as well, one a USB 3.0 for connecting a networked storage device which is good.A little concerningly to log on to the router the standard password is, er, 'password' so this needs to be urgently changed.Overall for gamers who want to use a WiFi network this router is probably as good as it gets at the moment when part of a Mesh network. That isn't relevant for this single router and although additional routers can be added, this will be costly. Performance will, therefore, depend a lot on the strength of the signal. For non-gamers I'd go for a more mainstream Mesh Network such as Netgear's Orbi.Overall four stars.

Style over substance
This is an OK router, looks good and well built, but flatters to deceive. Good gaming focused functions, but the Wifi signal range is pretty poor (presumably due to the internal aerials), coupled with a big price ticket, seems hard to justify the cost when there are better more capable routers around.

Really Disappointing Router
I'm an IT Systems Admin and former network manager. I deliver high end technical training for the UKs biggest IT training provider. I like to think that I have some idea of how networking appliances work (especially as I used to configure them for a living and still train people in how to configure/manage networks). So a nice Razer box arrived at home and the first thing you see is how small it is (I replaced a NetGear R8500 with this for my testing). It's a very neat package, all the aerials are internal and it's finished in matt black with a Razer logon on top (you can turn the lighting down on this so it isn't very intrusive). The setup is performed over bluetooth from an App - what's wrong with using a web console? -and there really aren't many options. After doing that I do get access to a web console and discover that there really aren't many options. The documentation states that the router will automatically select and change WiFi channel based on conditions - so there are no settings for that. There are some QoS settings, but again it's pretty much fire and forget. I couldn't get the app to show me any connected devices (even when I was doing stuff like streaming TV to TVs and gaming from PS4s they just wouldn't show in the app) . One of the problems I had after this was configured was that my TV would constantly be pausing when streaming Tv from Amazon/Netflix - it would be okay for 10-20 minutes then it would pause for a few seconds, this appeared to correspond with the WiFi channels being checked and modified automatically, which you can't turn off. Everytime you change anything in the web console or the app there is a pause on the local network. Security is also a concern - if you need an app and bluetooth to configure/connect then how secure is it? You only need to know a password to get on (not a password and username. I know it's a consumer electronics box, but security is should be a MAJOR part of any internet connected device. This is also just a router - so you will need to connect it to a fibre modem (in my case the white OpenReach box) and it only has a miserly 3 ethernet ports on the back. This Razer Sila router is touted across the media for several things.1. It's ability to always work on the cleanest WiFi channel2. It's dynamic QoS for gamingTo be honest in my opinion is really doesn't do that good a job of either and I've gone back to my Netgear router which gives me all the configuration options that I need and has better WiFi coverage.
