Marrakesh, Fez and Rabat (Cadogan Guides)

The book is very detailed. It is very useful, but is a bit too much for a travel guide, at least for me. Besides, it is too big for taking it with you while walking around. I purchased this book and the Lonely Planet Morocco (2009) book for my trip to Morocco in July 2012. I mostly used this book and carried it with me daily. I found the layout and content of this book made it much more user friendly than the Lonely Planet book. I visited Rabat, Marakesh, Fez, and Meknes during this trip and found that it provides good details on all of the main attractions. Their was plenty of information and maps on the historical sites and medinas that I was able to get around the medinas without too much trouble. I did not use either book for lodging as Trip Advisor and bookings.com have the most up-to-date consumer reviews and prices for lodging and recommend travelers to use those websites for that information. Although this book provides information about neighboring cities, it's main focus are the cities listed on the cover. That being said, if you are planning on traveling to other cities you will probably need an additional book. My final suggestion that had nothing to do with the book is that I highly recommend staying in one of the many lovely Riads in the medinas in these cities as opposed to a hotel. You will find the Riads charming and providing a much more authentic environment with moroccan hospitality (and moderately less expensive than industrial hotels).

I like travel books, guides, maps, etc. I tend to overspend on guides and for a recent trip to Marrakesh and Rabat I bought four guides. By far, I found Cadogan's Guide to be my favorite for the essentials, good restaurants, witty and well-written neighborhood summaries, and spot on recommendations. So, I can recommend this book highly.

Well written but the maps atrocious, I am an architect and could not follow them. Less info and better maps, few colour photos would help too.

Good informative book

based on reviews from other buyers i bought this instead of lonely planet. but neither my husband or i found it that helpfull, some very basic information was missing - for example maps which included roughly where the recommended hotels, restaurants etc were located. which made finding things difficult as fez is a city which was fairly difficult to find our way around (e.g missing street names etc). it gave lengthy descriptions of certain things like mosques, but then at the end said non muslims could not visit them! there was not a hlepfull rough idea of opening times or entry fees. i do understand this information gets out of date, but i would have found it more helpfull to have at least some guidance. i felt the book was written by someone who had particular interests so would go into great detail on those, but too little information on other things...e.g. there is a lengthy and very well laid out description of vollubilis. the other thing i found with this book is that .when i read it before my trip i did not feel excited about visiting the region, i think it was due to the writing style. i found the lonely planet copy i read whilst in fez engaged my imaginiation much more. even though i do intend to visit morrocco again i left this book behind.
