He was only 17, with one year left of High School before he would attend Richard Daley College in Chicago. By 1994 Mark relocated to Florida, and with him came the manuscript of his first book. The piece was titled Total Scales Techniques and Applications, which Mark sold to his private students. One afternoon a student's friend came into the music store where Mark was teaching. He explained that he had seen the manuscript and wanted to purchase one for himself. This transaction sparked the idea to put the manuscript up for sale online. The manuscript sold so well that Mark was able to quit his 'other job' as a student loan consultant, and pursue music full time.
