Monarchy
`Monarchy' is an outstanding 5 part BBC series that gives us an inside view of the royal life. This looks at many aspects of royal life and follows the Queen as she travels to America to meet the President (George Bush at the time), hosts various teas, lunches, banquets and balls in the UK (and shows the meticulous detail that goes into the preparation), the various investitures she presides over, her state opening of parliament, her visits to charities, the opening of various buildings and sites and her assorted other duties. This also looks at the other key members of the royal family and what they get up to as well. It is fascinating to see how they live and work and you will be touched at numerous times at how down to earth they are and adept at their various roles. You will also be left gob smacked at the pomp and ceremony of various events and will appreciate the heritage and meaning behind many state events. This gave me an insight into royal life that has previously been unavailable and if the Queen wanted to open her self up to her subjects then this achieved that goal superbly. The palaces and stately homes are stunning, the costumes are impressive and you can't help but feel a swell of patriotism in your chest when you see how reverred and respected the Queen is abroad. There is also an additional bonus footage section that shows some elements that were cut from the original broadcast. All in all this is a fascinating look at the royal family and shows what they do for the country. It also shows how impressively and grandly the other half live!Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Insightful & Interesting series
A very interesting BBC Fly-on-the-wall documentary series looking at the British Royal Family and how they spend their lives in public service. The BBC at the time of filming were give unprecendented access to the Royal Family and as such makes this series very interesting as it reveals the often glossed over human side of the public persona's.The episodes look at different aspects of the family's life and are as follows:-1 The State Visit-2 Headquarters-3 Head of State-4 The Queen and us-5 Inside the FirmAll said very interesting and worth the incredibly cheap price Amazon is now selling this at.

The Royal Family At Work
Spread over five episodes, this fly on the wall documentary is a step up from Andrew Marr's "The Diamond Queen". It goes behind the scenes to chronicle the work undertaken by key members of the royal family. In the first episode "The State Visit", the Queen and related staff are profiled during a state visit to the United States, marking the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Jamestown Settlement in Virginia. The highlight is George W Bush hosting the only white-tie banquet of his presidency at the White House. It gives a clear sense of the long preparations and perpetual panic that goes on by a wide variety of people to make the visit a success. The second episode "Headquarters" shows the functions of Buckingham Palace and some of the events which take place there. Profiled are a state banquet for the President of Ghana, and Steven Gerrard receiving an MBE. Palace staff are interviewed giving an intriguing insight as to what it is like working for the Queen.Next, "Head Of State" shows Buckingham Palace staff and others preparing for the State Opening of Parliament, including the Royal coachmen repairing and cleaning their 100-year-old uniforms and the crown jewels being transferred from the Tower of London to the palace. Exiting Prime Minister Tony Blair provides his thoughts on the Queen, and snippets of a meeting between the Queen and the Chancellor Gordon Brown are very interesting.Fourth, "The Queen And Us" profiles the annual Royal Garden Party attended by the Queen. One guest - Pearl Mitchell from Northern Ireland - is followed as she nervously prepares to meet the Queen, along with her rather reluctant and skeptical partner! Also, Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall make an amusing visit for tea with an organic farming family, and The Duke of Edinburgh opens the Emirates Stadium - but not everything goes according to plan.Last, "Inside The Firm" follows Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and The Countess of Wessex as they undertake work on behalf of the Queen. Also, Princes William and Harry are filmed carrying out duties as they start to become “professional royals”.Overall this is a wonderful series for anyone interested in what the royal family actually do. There are many revealing and funny moments that would not be shown on TV – this is a genuine behind the scenes look at things.

Heritage revealed
An excellent insight into the Royal Family and the astonishing amount of work that goes on behind the scenes in the Royal Household. It shows how hard our much maligned royals are dedicated to the preservation of our heritage and how lucky we are to have such an institution to safeguard it.If you don't get something from watching this DVD then you really are missing out on the special insight this gives to a remarkable and resilient monarch.

A bit repetitive
I was disappointed with this dvd. It was rather dry and seemed to put forward the same examples of the Queen's appointments and daily life. It may well be that that, in fact, is the picture of what she does each and every day, but as much I love the Royal Family, I lost interest in this dvd before the end of the first disc.

Got ripped off
The DVD is not compatible with any of our 3 DVD players. I requested to return the DVD and have not heard back as to where I return it. Unfortunately, since I am unable to return the DVD because no one ever informed me where or how to return it, I feel like I got ripped off.
