NETGEAR Powerline AV+ 200
I purchased this item Oct 2010 and I am as very pleased today as the day I had first put them to use back in Oct 2010. My need and reason for purchase was as follows: My cable modem, router, Vonage device, secondary HDTV, HD Satellite receiver and Desktop PC are all located in my bedroom. My home entertainment system is located in the living room includes a Blu-ray disc player, HD-DVR Sat Receiver and big screen HDTV. I live in an apartment so to direct connect my equipment in the living room to my broadband connection in the bedroom was a unreasonable solution. The logical choices were either wireless or powerline. Wireless I assumed would be too slow or perhaps even undependable for download streaming of internet content and movies to my Blu-Ray disc player or HD-DVR Satellite receiver, not to mention the possible privacy and security issues at risk using wifi. So, I opted for what I felt would be the best solution providing it worked as advertised....POWERLINE!! What a blessing, it worked everybit as well as advertised. Watching live streaming programs, downloading movies to record and watch at a later time all worked out flawlessly. No stuttering, no freezing or intermittent loss of signal whatsoever! It also made whole home HD DVR service possible. Set up was as easy as plugging in your TV, well sort of ha ha. All you do is plug in one of the devices in a ac socket close to your broadband router, plug your second adapter in a wall outlet anywhere else in your living quarters you want to have internet connectivity. Once you have both units plugged in the adapters will light up verifying they are communicating with one another. Next connect a ethernet cable fron one of your free lan ports on your router to the adapter located nearby. Presto, you have internet to whatever room your other adapter or adapters are plugged in. There is also built in security which only requires pressing a button on each of the adapters and entering a device ID. Everything was plug and play, my router recognized the presence of the adapter immediately upon connection. I have never had any problems with connectivity even during periods of household high energy use such as when running my AC, the clothes dryer etc. Although this is not an issue with me, I could see a potential problem if the adapters are plugged in to wall outlets that are fed through separate circuit breakers. To my knowledge most homes only have one circuit breaker box so for most of us that should not be a issue. So to sum things up, if direct connect internet service to throughout your house is not possible or logical this is the way to go. Wireless of course is another option, but by no means as potentially fast or as reliable as power-line. In order to connect my broadband connection to more than one device in my living room, I connected a 4 port Ethernet switch to the adapter located there, then connected my blu-ray and satellite receiver to the switch. Still having 2 open ports on the switch allows me to add other devices as wanted, such as a game-box etc. Heck my fiancé even connects her laptop to it while in the living room because she gets a better, reliable connection speed than when going wireless.

Solid performance
Quick advice: First check if you can run cat5 or cat5E. It's MUCH cheaper and has potentially faster speeds. If not, this might be what you need.I was very skeptical of these devices, but with how bad my WiFi repeating situation was I was willing to take a risk and turn that segment of my network into a physical link. They have not disappointed. One thing that I've noticed is the speed is much more consistent than wireless. My transfer graphs have a solid horizontal line, no jumping around. I haven't done any advanced tests though so I can't speak for exact numbers.I'm using these to extend an Airport Extreme to and Airport Express and it's been much more reliable than just doing it with wireless using Apple's stuff. That's not to say Apple's stuff is bad, I've had great success building wireless bridges between buildings with them. However, that hasn't been working so good in my current situation, but these adapters solved the problem.I have three complaints...No gigabit ethernet. This should be a standard, I don't know why anybody still ships 100mbps gear. Gig-E auto-crosses and obviously has a faster speed. These would be much better with that. (Though, I'm not sure if they have auto-cross or not.)They don't work in every outlet. Some of the gear wouldn't even get a link at all. However... there's an LED that gives you an immediate status of quality, so this problem is easy enough to work around if you have a choice of outlets. There's only one ethernet port. If you want to hook up multiple devices on either side of this you have to also buy network switches. Netgear makes switches, so they should build them into the device. They probably do on other models though, but not on these.I'd definitely recommend these for people who are having poor luck with wifi extenders and people who can't simply run cat5.

Works Great!
Dear Prospective Buyers,I have a wireless bridge made by one of Netgear's competitors, and it never had internet speeds that were sufficient for the internet. In addition, the bridge would just stop working and need reprogramming every three days or so. That was very frustrating. But, because our TV and DVD are able to access the internet, I really wanted to find something more reliable and faster and I decided not to give up.Therefore, I did some research into other adapters, including the wireless N, USB port type that some of the TV manufacturers recommend as an accessory. I was not impressed. Then, I found the powerline adapters online. I was impressed with the technology, and with the Netgear branded items. I wanted to wait for the next generation of Netgear powerline adapters (1000 Mbps capable), but I decided to buy the Netgear Powerline AV+ 200 adapter kit. I am so happy that I did! There were NO ISSUES with setup. I plugged the first adapter into an empty ethernet port on my router upstairs, then plugged it into the outlet near the router. As for the second adapter, I plugged it into an outlet in the adjacent room and plugged the ethernet cable into the gaming system. There was no problem connecting to the internet or with online gaming. Then, I moved the adapter downstairs, and I tried it on my laptop - I got 100 Mbps in my living room! Lastly, I tried it on my TV downstairs. No problems at all! (I plan to try the DVD player later this week.)Speed - great! Setup - easy and fast! Portability - excellent! Cost - reasonable (the USB wireless adapters are at least $79 or so, and they cannot compete with this)! Secure - yes!I highly recommend this product, and I plan to buy additional adapters so that I do not have to move the adapters around (even though it is not hard to do). This product is a pleasure to use - it works!
