Runs True
Although the old and broken wheel was more than a certified hassle to get off (note: pull the shaft in older right hand thread units so you can put it in a soft-jaw vice) and required shop gear like a torch for the bolt and large metal files to cut back the corrosion from time, putting the new one on was easy and, BEST PART, it runs absolutely true. No hops, dips, or wobble. Like a new machine and a pleasure to use.

A great stone does the right job
Are use the stone for sharpening knives and anything that cells need sharpened

It does the job.
This is my fourth Tormek SG-250, which is the stone that came with my Tormek system originally. Its best feature is its ability to change grits through application of a coarse or fine whetstone (sold separately) so you can do fast grinding, as with a chipped chisel, or fine grinding, as on most cutlery. The stone is perfectly round from the start and gets right to work. I sharpen professionally and am very happy with this stone.

Disappointed
This stone isn't nearly as good as the original Tormek stone that it replaced. It's OK on fairly soft steel, but it won't grind anything made of harder high quality tool steel. A slow turning wheel like this actually needs to be soft enough that it will wear and continually expose new sharp particles of abrasive. Or it needs to be made of an abrasive that's sharper. It's OK for kitchen knives or hand plane blades, but it won't grind high quality woodworking chisels. These are expensive, so buyer beware.

Replace woth what came with it
I bought my Tormek over 20 years ago and used up the original stone. I was always happy with it's performance so, when people started raving about CBN wheels, I hesitated on which to buy.I ended up going with what the machine was designed for. I restore a lot of antique Stanley planes and I use the side of the stone to flatten the back of old blades. The narrowness of CBN stones didn't appeal to me so I ended up simy buying a replacement stone. The water aspect of the stone doesn't bother ne as I hone my edges with 6000 and 12000 grit waterstones anyway.

Terrible quality.
After only about 40 knives, the stone is undulated bad enough during rotation already to require truing. On top of that, the grit consistency is all over the place around the circumference of the stone. It's way past the return window as I unfortunately bought this replacement to have on hand when the other stone got down below specs. It's absolutely disgusting that; for this extortionist price, Tormek can not put out a quality stone.
