Disciplines of a Godly Young Man

As our sons moved out of our home to secular college campuses, I could tell that they were struggling to maintain the daily disciplines of Bible study, prayer, guarding their thought life, and managing their time spent on the internet and on their phones that we had practiced in our home. This book, written from a man's perspective, is engaging, honest, and convicting while still being encouraging. As they begin to stand on their own faith, this book provides a rubric upon which young men can identify areas in which he needs to set up hedges of protection for himself. The author asks the reader questions for evaluation which ultimately lead to the reader making specific decisions about how to handle each issue presented. A wonderful resource to support and encourage a young man, especially as he embarks on living independently in the world.

This book is great, especially for men who are developing in their walk.

The content of the book relies really heavily on pop culture and trivia for illustrations. Unfortunately the references are now badly outdated. Also the wording a phrasing is crafted in an attempt to sound clever but is very confusing for the young mens group I am leading. This communication style makes the author sound smart but doesn’t communicate the information to the people I wanted the book for.

I wish that each of my teen guys would read through this with their dads. It does a great job of covering the matter of purity with enough info yet staying "in bounds" and not going too far in consideration of the ages represented. I would recommend for 7th grade and up.

I have bought and given away over 100 copies of this book. It is a classic. It is the best I have ever read covering all the vital topics of Christian disciplines. It is a must read for every husband, father, and any son who wants to keep their life on track in bringing glory to the Lord. Thank you Kent Hughes.Russell Hohneck.

Great for boys small group study with mentor-leader!

I bought this book for use in my young men's group and it is a fantastic conversation starter. It's extremely blunt and to the point. Some great points and keeps mostly to the facts.

Honestly this book has aided me in many ways in my personal walk with Christ. Allowing me to see as a young adult the ways I ought to behave and act. I truly recommend this book to every young teenager to young adult. Eye opening. Reading it as a good supplement when reading the Bible. 🙌😁
