I like them, but wish I could adjust time on different programs
I wanted to give this 5 stars, but I just found out it has a small deficiency. My old Gilmour battery timers are now on their last legs (not bad for almost 10 years), unfortunately, Gilmour quality has decreased, and the new models are not reliable. In my quest for new battery timers, I came across these Galcons. They are built quite sturdily, and seem to be quite water resistant.I purchased the 7001, not knowing there is 9001. In this case, I needed to buy adapters to go from NPT to GHT. Amazon has 'em.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005DST7QM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00andhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SY4STA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00will convert the timer to use Garden Hose Threads. A bit more expensive, but I think this timer is built better than the 9001.My only gripe is that it is unable to vary the watering time on the second, third or fourth watering programIn other words, if you programmed program 1 for 10 minutes, the program 2, 3, and 4 will run at 10 minutes. Not a deal breaker, but not as flexible as my old Gilmour Timers.I have only had these for a couple of months, but they seem to be working perfectly. I will add additional information as time goes by.Update 6/2018My timers still work as they should. I have about 8 units, they function perfectly. Mind you, I take them inside during the winter and remove the batteries (rechargable 9volts). I have tried the K Rain Bluetooth timer, but it pooped out after one year-very disappointing, and you need an Android device to make contact, so unless you carry your phone, you are out of luck getting this to turn on manually. This Galcon model is the best I have found, to date.

and useful timers I have ever owned
Being an avid gardener, I have tried many other brands and types of irrigation timers. These are the most reliable, durable, and useful timers I have ever owned. Having four start times, means you can use them to water seed starts requiring several short duration cycles throughout the day. I have purchased well over a dozen of these, (some under the 'DIG' brand) and the oldest of them, even after more than 10 years continuous use, have only required yearly battery changes. They withstood winter frosts, summers in the 100's, and only required an insulation blanket over them in freezing temps to protect them. The only thing I would NOT do, is install them below ground in an irrigation control box, or anywhere they could become submerged or flooded. They wont survive being submerged, but neither would any other comparable unit. Hands-down, these are the best ones on the market, in my opinion.

BUYER BEWARE!!!
What you see in the product photograph on this Seller's site is NOT what you get from Galcon since they stopped manufacturing the Model 7001D for DIG, and began selling it under their own name. My first experience with these timers began 10 years ago when they were manufactured for DIG, and they were absolutely incredible. They endured summer temps of 100+ with no problems as long as I kept the cover closed on the digital display of the controller, and disconnected the timers during the winter. I have extensive systems requiring three separate timers, all hard-mounted on a "manifold" of PVC pipe, and I learned the hard way to disconnect them during winter months to keep water that stays in them from freezing and splitting the body of the unit. One that had been repaired with JB Weld lasted another nine years, but this spring the "weld" split open; rather than apply another layer of glue, I decided to replace it. To my dismay, I discovered that I could no longer buy the Model 7001D from DIG, but they did tell me Galcon had decided to sell the 7001D under their own brand name and that it was available from Amazon. While shopping the numerous Sellers on Amazon who offer the Galcon 7001D, I was very careful to search for the product photograph that shows a "skirt" upon which the battery-operated controller sits, because I wanted exactly what I had bought from DIG years earlier. Many seller sites did not show the timer with the skirt; instead, the product photo showed only the base unit with the cylindrical solenoid, and the battery-operated controller. Now, THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE ONE-STAR RATING: Even though I was careful to buy from a Seller which displayed the Galcon 7001D photograph with a skirt, it came without one. The photograph on the box it came in showed the skirt, but inside the box was a flimsy adapter instead. When I finally figured out how it was supposed to mount on the solenoid and act as a cradle for the controller, it seemed apparent to me that every time the controller was removed from its cradle the solenoid would be jostled; over time, this could obviously lead to complete unit failure. Another reason for the one-star rating is that the Instruction Manual ALSO shows the unit with a skirt, even though there isn't one! There are absolutely no instructions to mount the flimsy adapter-cradle on the solenoid, leaving the buyer to figure it out on his/her own. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO ADD A CLARIFYING STATEMENT HERE: If the new Galcon timers are as good as when they bore the DIG brand name, they will be phenomenal. Because I haven't yet used the new Galcon 7001D for any length of time, I can't comment on its performance or longevity. My sole objection to it is the rinky-dink adapter/cradle which (incomprehensibly) mounts on the solenoid, and the Instruction Manual which is completely inadequate regarding the adapter. (Oh, yes, one more thing: To contact the manufacturer, you must call Israel, the country of origin. No telephone numbers for customer service in the U.S.) Since the old DIG timers are still functioning perfectly after ten years, I intend to buy two new Galcon 7001D timers to hold in reserve--IF--the current one is the same quality and performs as well as the old DIG ones. I won't wait another ten years to find out; Galcon might discontinue this model. Provided the new ones are as good as the DIG model, it would be my great loss should they stop making them altogether. Note: If you are fortunate enough to have an old DIG 7001D with the skirt and haven't thrown it away, the skirt can be removed from the old one and transferred to the new Galcon 7001D; if the controller is positioned just right, it can be pushed through the skirt and the skirt can then be seated over the rest of the unit, providing a stable cradle for the controller AND protecting the solenoid. Just be sure to save the "skid plate" from the bottom of the old DIG, because it anchors the skirt.

They work. They also have a three year warranty from Galcon.com if one should have a problem. After a year one of mine started leaking so it was running when it was supposed to be off. Pays to keep an eye on these especially if you have a well with an pump, a leaking valve will cause it to run excessively. Galcon eventually sent me a new one but I had to be persistent, took four phone calls.

Reliably watering our plants with minimum water!
We live in the Palm Springs Area, and with the combination of desert and California's drought, a drip system is the only answer. The Galcon is easy to read and programing it is simple and intuitive. We keep our potted courtyard and patio plants alive and well with a minimum amount of water. In fact our water bill says we have always stayed in the "EXCELLENT" level in our usage. Easy and reliable and you don't have to drag a hose around to do the job. The battery indicator is easy to see when it warns you that the batteries are getting low. And the batteries last well beyond a year. Saving the planet a few drips at a time.

... years to water a garden box and they work great. They are easy to program and
I've used these timers for years to water a garden box and they work great. They are easy to program and, surprisingly, the nine volt battery lasts for several seasons.

Great for areas with water but no power.
Mine didn't come with the lower skirt shown but was unnecessary for proper operation and it works fine.

They are easy to setup and work as described
I have been using these controllers (20+) for more than 10 years. They are easy to setup and work as described. They seem to fail after about 10+ years...

Does a good job!
Easy to program and use if you take a couple minutes to read the manual. Has worked flawless since I installed approximately 1 month ago. Would definitely recommend for the price.
