This is the city ... and only Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks can save it in this hilarious box-office blockbuster that pays homage to the famed original police dramas of the 㤺s and 㥄s. Aykroyd is at his comedic best as the namesake nephew of Detective Sgt. Joe Friday. Like his uncle, he’s a blue-suited, by-the-rules cop who reluctantly joins forces with his footloose partner Pep Streebek (Hanks) to rescue the City of Angels from the machinations of a power-mad Reverend and corrupt Police Commissioners. And those are "just the facts", of this hysterically funny action-comedy!

Less is More, When You Have Good On-Screen Chemistry
The plot is remarkably dopey, but who cares? Aykroyd goes for restraint and deadpan throwaways that are balanced wonderfully by Hanks getting a little hammy. The sly Dragnet jokes are affectionate, and the team has real chemistry. This is a slight but entertaining and rewatchable treat.

Just the facts ma'am
A great story with some funny surprises as it moves through the plot. All of the main characters were perfectly cast, Tom Hanks, Dan Akroyd, & Harry Morgan.Fans of the original Jack Webb Dragnet series will appreciate this movie's format. Here is entertainment for the entire family on Amazon video.

Was good when I watched it as a kid but now...
Definitely one of those movies I should not have been watching as a kid but my parents had no idea. Watched it again for the nostalgia factor and the jokes that were funny to me as a kid were only funny because of how juvenile they were. If you want to watch a good classic Tom Hanks movie, go watch Big. If you want to watch classic Dan Akryoid, go watch Trading Places. This should have stayed in the dumpster in the back of my mind.

A clever, funny tribute to the old Dragnet series
Clever, silly and just plain fun tribute to the old Dragnet series. Dan Aykroyd is hilarious in his role as Joe Friday, and Tom Hanks is just the right comic foil to Aykroyd's straight-laced character. The plot is fluffy-thin, but the characters drive the story, and you'll laugh out loud more than a few times. Younger viewers who don't remember the original series will still enjoy this comic romp at face value, but those of us who know the original show will get a special kick from it. Watch for the appearance of veteran actor Harry Morgan, who plays the police chief in this outing, but was the original Joe Friday's partner in the classic series.

"Just The Facts, Ma'am", Indeed
Dragnet is a 1987 remake(or parody depending on how you look at it)of the classic 1967-69 TV police drama starring the late Jack Webb. In this really funny action-comedy, Dan Aykroyd stars as Joe Friday, the nephew of the well-respected L.A.P.D. detective Joe Friday(portrayed by Webb in the TV series), as he teamed with a free-spirited beat cop named Pep Streebek(Tom Hanks). From the start, Friday and Streebek get into each-other's cases and drives one another crazy, but, under the guidance of Frank Gannon(Harry Morgan), the elder Friday's old partner, Friday and Streebek must work together to stop a power-mad religious figure and bring down a crooked L.A.P.D. commisioner. The special features includes a trailer of the film, a detailed history of the film's production, and bios of the cast and director. Dragnet is one of the best movies based on a TV show I have seen in a while.

Sequel, not a spoof or parody
"Pseudo-halogenic compound cyanogen. Uh-huh."There seems to be some sort of misunderstanding of the nature of 1987's comedy hit Dragnet. It's NOT a spoof of the TV show like the indescribably awful Starsky and Hutch movie from 2004. Aykroyd and Hanks can sleep sound at night knowing that they've made a movie for the ages, and despite a couple of elements which place it firmly in the 80s there's not much to make you think it wasn't made in the 21st century, especially that brilliant theme tune by The Art of Noise. A soundtrack CD was released at the time, but a dedicated score CD has, to date, never been made available, which is a shame since it's brilliant.Dan Aykroyd plays the nephew of Jack Webb's Joe Friday (also called Joe). He's just as humorless, unironic and logical. He goes into ludicrous detail about the most trivial of matters and has never, ever, ever considered breaking the rules to break a case. His partner Frank quits and his boss Captain Bill Gannon (Jack Webb's partner in the original TV show, once again played by Harry Morgan) pairs him up with dirty, unshaven young renegade Pep Streebeck (Tom Hanks). They're the classic mismatched pair and the chemistry between them is absolutely perfect. They're assigned to the P.A.G.A.N. case and discover a ruthless cult taking control of the Los Angeles crime network. WAY out of their depth, and with only a single witness to identify the P.A.G.A.N. leader they move from one amusing set-piece to the next, rubbing off on each other, and losing many vehicles (and Friday's beloved hat).Dragnet went straight to Number 1 at the box office when it was released in the summer of 1987 and I've loved it ever since I was a kid. Even though I didn't completely understand it, Over the years I've noticed things that I previously missed and it's kept the film fresh and appealing all this time. It's not as fondly remembered as other comedy films from the era (such as The 'burbs, Uncle Buck or Fletch) for some reason but it's well worth owning. The DVD is in average Dolby 2.0 surround with okay stereo effects and slight ambiance to James Ira Newborn's score and is anamorphically enhanced at 1.78:1. The only extra is a trailer which features scenes not in the movie. But seriously Universal, the time has come for a Blu Ray release. Dragnet was one of the first movies out of the door when DVD came along and I've owned this version for over 11 years. Blu Ray is hardly in its infancy anymore and I'd like you to start releasing more catalog movies. Can we have Dragnet in High-Def NOW please? We need a 1080p re-master and lossless audio for that brilliant score.

Akroyd/Hanks = Yes!
I never watched the original show and don't really care about it. The 80's movie iteration was pure 80's movie gold and it is awesome to see two hilarious people and good actors together in a buddy cop movie, before those were really a thing, save for 48 hours, and that horrible Joe Piscopo/Treat Williams movie. The laughs are cheesy but I still laugh ever time. Dabney Coleman is pretty funny as a rip off Hugh Heffner and the story line is actually pretty good. The movie moves a long with no weird slow spots and comedy is running rampant with the dry quick-witted Akroyd and the 80's goofball version of Hanks. If you are looking for a silly movie that is enjoyable with a good story, this is it, check it out. Tell them the PAGANs sent you.
