Q: Hi, is it possible to test a capacitor 'in-circuit' ie. without removing it first ?

Not recommended. Capacitors can and generally always retain some residual voltage from the circuit even when the item has no power source. Depending on the circuit and type of capacitor this voltage can cause a lot of damage to a human being. If you really want to test in circuit first disconnect item from power source. Desolder one leg of the capacitor and using a 1 megohm resistor connected to a wire discharge the capacitor to ground. You can now test the capacitor.
