Can wooden swords fit into the back piece?

If they were the same size as the plastic yes. But the plastic swords just slide in. Like 1 inch wide and 1 or so thick would fit.

can you fight with them

They are made of a hard, brittle plastic and aren’t very flexible, so I wouldn't recommend fighting with them. My boys broke one of the swords play fighting.

can the swords come off the backpack?

Yes, the swords come off the backpack. The swords are very flimsy (ours cracked and broke shortly after purchase), though, so I would recommend taking the swords out only for show rather than for actually playing with them.
