This connector backshell used all the features from all the other similar shells the I hate. At least the pins are crimped and not soldered. The nylon grommets are so thick, that in order to close the two halves of the shell together, to insert the nuts/screws, I had to use a vice grips. But once I learned the techniques needed to assemble this monster, it's a very good backshell. Because the grommets are so thick, they really hold the cable well, so the wires won't back out of the connector on me.

I needed to make a custom cable for a new Printer we are Demoing for a Bagging Machine. Needed to link the printer which has this type of plug to our bagging Machine which has a round 5 pin mini plug. Which is something I added to use with the OLD Printer which again I had to custom make a cable for that one also. I did have to buy the right kind of crimper to crimp those pins onto the wire. In fact, I only used 4 of the pins. 2 for the bagger to send a PRINT command, and the other 2 for an Error for like running out of its ribbon. You want the bagging machine to stop when the printer can print onto the bags anymore until the ribbon is replaced. it's a Thermal type of Ribbon.It includes a number of different sizes of rubber boots to use depending on cable size. Connect all your wires to the pins first and then you can push them into the correct hole for the front part. Make sure you put the pin into the correct hole as they just don't pull out after being installed. Also, make sure you have the rubber boot on your cable first and in the right direction so you can pull it into place when you put the outer casing together.You could crimp the wire onto the pin and then use a little solder if you wanted and thought it needed it. I think using the right crimper tool worked great and holding the wire quite good. I don't think I'll ever have to screw around with it ever again. The outer casing is metal, NOT plastic!!! That's a plus for sure. Plastic ones are not very good.

Received a cheap plastic housing DB15 connector, not metal.

Part was broken and unusable. Part is also made of a heavy metal material, not light weight plastic like most DSUB connector shells.
