Q: Hi all. I don't understand how this product has zero grams of sugar, yet the first ingredient is fruit. Is there a chemical process involved?

I agree this must be false and is misleading. The total count of sugars represents the literal sugar content, not the type of sugar used. Fruit has sugar in it. Even bags of pure frozen fruit label their sugar count and it is substantial. I’m guessing the sugar count is represented by the carb count. I’m not sure how they get away with doing this, it’s dangerous for diabetics.

I never experienced any effects. So I don't believe so as long as you don't try to eat the whole thing at one time. These products are made with one of the best sugar alternatives available with one of the lowest levels on the glycemic index, 12. Most "sugar free" products are made with Maltitol which can be painful because it is cheaper, and has a glycemic index of 35; sucrose (table sugar) has an index of 65. So maltitol will still affect blood sugar levels. Xylitol is roughly as sweet as sucrose (table sugar), with about 33% fewer calories per unit weight. Unlike other natural or synthetic sweeteners, xylitol is actively beneficial for dental health by reducing caries (cavities) to a third in regular use and helpful to remineralization. Multiple studies utilizing electron microscopy have indicated that xylitol is effective in inducing remineralization of deeper layers of demineralized enamel.

Peach has fruit, water, xylitol, erythriyol, pectin,gum, etc. I have blueberry and apricot coming, but don't know what is in them. My husband has eaten them for a long time because they are the best flavored sugar-free perserves he has found. I am not up on all the ingredients.
