Thank you for your inquiry. This unit is very quiet and will not make white noise. If you want a unit to make noise while you are sleeping, we advise the HTF400, Honeywell Dreamweaver fan. This unit makes what is called "Pink Noise", a lower and more natural tone than white noise to help with sleep.
