This is a good question. Most customers don't think about it. It is a fact that most duct systems  for central air installed in the 70's and early 80's are tool small to carry the air flow from the blower to the registers in the home. I have a 1978 home in Montana that I updated with a new furnace ,93% efficient . I've been using a merv 8 16X24X1 filter for years. I purchased a Merv 11 last year and installed it. After which I placed an amp meter around the line wire going to the blower and after startup current was around 12.3 amps while running . Before with the merv 8 filter it was at 11 amps which is the specification on my blower for normal running operation.

Static pressure in a duct system is critical when deciding on the correct Merv number filter to use. My merv 8 filter actually get's "sucked" down a little due to my static pressure being to high. So a larger merv filter would probably get sucked into the blower motor.

I am going to seal my ductwork with Mastik next year and get my ducts cleaned out and maybe this might lower my static pressure somewhat .

So in conclusion : Get the size and Merv rating filter you desire and do the amperage test and see if your blower amperage increases. If it does you are going to have a shorter blower life expectancy. How shorter ? No one knows. Just So you Know.......the furnace filter is there to mainly protect the blower motor, heat exchangers and the air conditioning evaporator from getting clogged with God know's what. Yes it does help clean the air in the conditioned space but it's not really enough to protect us from God know's what's in our air .

Does this filter fit for Aprilarine brand? I normally use Aprilarine 213 model air filter. But the shape of this filter looks little bit different
