Q: I am confused by the dimensions listed. How deep is the unit from back to front? My cabinet is only 15 1/2 inches deep I need room for cables.

You will not have an issue. depth is width or 12" for the receiver.

Q: Why is there no picture of the back?

There is a picture of the Pyle PT696BT 5.2 1000W receiver front and back together on Amazon that you can view and scan enlarge. I have an older model PT694BT and I love it. The price for the new model is fabulous

Not sure. I tried two of them and had to return them both and then Bought a Sony receiver
