Not for the casual viewer . . . a literary film
This movie is not for the casual viewer. Like a fine literary work, it demands attention to detail and suspension of belief in the ordinary expectations one has of "heroes" and "villains," who is good, who is not, what are the motivations of the characters, who do we believe and why, etc. The turning points in the character development and plot are in the details -- some come so quickly and without warning that you should have your remote ready to rewind parts of this dvd, to make sure you heard that word, that phone conversation, that vocal inflection, correctly.I thought about this movie for hours after seeing it and even the next day I am reflecting on it -- the variations it reveals on the themes of trust, love, motivation, happiness and loss. The portrayal of the fragility of what we hold dear is very convincingly portrayed. A movie to be watched more than once.

Loved it
I really enjoyed this movie. All excellent actors - they all did a fantastic job in their roles. Cinematography on point. Music on point. Highly poignant film. Surprised at the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Didn't like the portrayal of women
There are two women who are significantly unkind to men (who aren't wholly deserving). One is a childish brow beater who ushers the p-whipped lead around by the .... nose. Fortunately, he gets a few zingers back at her but it all distills down to a (meaningless) sexual relationship. On a different subject, there's another woman made a small mistake that could have made for a large, tragic result. While it was an accident, she is cruelly vilified, as if her (in)action was done with malicious intent. It was an accident people (geez)! Overall, however, the film has a likable twist that, at the end of its four stories, leaves one thinking that nothing was what it appeared to be ... or was it?

OK, so, watch it when you have time on your hands, and don't care how you spend it
Slow moving, with some surprise twists that do not seem to fit the characters or the story plot? Actors are known names and believable in most instances in this film. The viewer is introduced to 3 stories, 3 sets of characters, which the screen writer attempts to bring together at the end of the film. The basic story centers around a "burned-out" writer who's first book was a hit, but what he produced there after did not sell. he is married and is having an affair, characterized by intentional cruelty and "rough" sex, with a much younger woman (who also has another, even older lover). The other characters in the film are created by the writer, and each of the other stories shares elements of the writers own situation in life. Basically, Liam Neeson (the writer) lies to everyone, so the theme or thread in the film explores the many consequences and results of lying. The film is dark in nature, focuses on self-destructive tendencies, and offers up for your inspection the many ways we humans can destroy the real joy life has to offer. I would call this film a "work in progress." There may be a good story there, but it will take some re-work to create a worthy watch for the viewer. I see why it did not make a "splash" in theaters.

Its Liam Neeson
What did you expect; storyline and the whole format of the story is worth your time. Mila Kunis played an awesome character in a heart-felt story.

Thought provoking characters and storytelling.
Intriguing movie with clever and sophisticated non-leanier storytelling. The characters are vulnerable, deeply flawed (aren't we all?), and complex, and they are portrayed in such a humane manner. This movie provokes the audience to think and use their intelligence to interpret the characters and the stories. If you are looking for pure barinless entertainment, this is not your cup of tea.

Great line up of Actors, Tragically Convoluted Plot
Have you ever started watching a movie and after a while, you can't tell how much time has passed, you just know that it feels like a really long time? This is how I felt about half the way through this movie. It has an all-star cast. It has a renowned writer and director (same guy). The plot is this twisted mess of who is related to whom and why is this person hurting and how are any of these people connected in this story and wait is that who I think it is and good lord why is this happening? Honestly, none of the storylines make much sense, together or apart, and I was left questioning why one storyline existed at all. The only thing that makes any sense is that because the writer/director is famous, he was able to make a movie like this that I think would have been canned if it had been anyone else. The dialogue is not particularly witty or interesting, which is bizarre considering the movie focuses on a writer. I think there were too many plates spinning to bring the subplots together in a meaningful way. I don't recommend this movie.

Puzzle
Trois histoires en une et pu d'action. C'est un peu lourd à suivre. Ce n'est pas le meilleur film de Liam Neeson. Il nous a habitué à beaucoup plus d'actions dans d'autres films, alors qu'il excelle.
