Excellent keyboard with a steep learning curve
My coworkers were in love with this keyboard, so I decided to try it. While I'm very glad I did, it's important to note that it can be a real time investment to get used to it depending on how you actually reach for the bottom row and number keys when you type; I was used to using different hands for certain keys and different fingers for the bottom row that I needed to relearn for this. The only real problem I don't see getting solved is the necessity to toggle the 'keypad' mode to get access to some keys, particularly + and =, that I end up using quite a bit (edit: I was wrong about this; there's actually a key in the upper left that combines + and =). The layout can also make it hard to actually find these keys by their labels due to the curvature of the wells. If you tend to use the number pad itself at length, e.g. for data entry, this is a lot less likely to be a problem for you.The first bit of customization I did was switching out the Windows key for a second Alt key (one of the extra keycaps included). The quickstart form included makes it clear how to switch between preset modes to make this work; it was a huge relief that they made it so easy. While this is unlikely to be an issue if the Alt key isn't important to you, for an emacs user, having both meta and ctrl on each side might be helpful. There's also a preset for Mac users to add the cmd/option key, also including spare keycaps.I'll also say that if you frequently use the Fn keys, you might find this keyboard a little less satisfying. They're much less convenient than the rest of the keyboard (aside from the number pad), and they're smaller than the standard keys. But it's hard to see how they could've really done a much better job with the layout than they did.Still, these are notes, not really criticisms. If you can take the temporary hit to your productivity, this is an excellent upgrade, and I think it deserves a full five stars.
