How "coarse" is it - #3, #4 or #8?

Not coarse. Aprox. 1/16" and over 1/3 of bag was powder

What size perlite is this?

It is large, coarse perlite. The pieces range from pea size to maybe moth ball size. Of course they’re not perfectly round but you get the idea. I raise cactus and succulents so I need my soil mix to be very fast draining so this works perfectly.

Does this perlite need to be rinsed prior to use? Is it dusty?

You can rinse if you’d like ,but it’s most likely still going to be dusty. Without rinsing the perlite it will be very dusty and should not be breathed upon.
