A New York sportswriter (Chevy Chase) and his wife want to pursue a quiet country life, but the house they buy and the town they move to are not quite what they seem.

Not very funny.
Thought this might be similar to lampoon's vacation films but it's not.

Good 80s comedy
There are not many films I remember my dad having on vhs in the 80s. But this is one of them. After not seeing the film for the best part of 30 years I thought I'd revisit it. Good film with just the right amount of comedy. Some funny scenes ( the lamb testicle eating one for example) and a surprisingly warm and touching ending. Chevy chase is one of those actors you either love or hate. But definitely worth a watch if you like 80s comedys

One of my favorite movies of all time
Charming and hilarious. I've loved this movie for decades and it never gets old. They don't make them like this anymore.

Inoffensive but bland
Tedious and clichΓ©-ridden. The rural sheriff is a bit relaxed. Good-ol' boys go "hyuck hyuck". Locals don't like incomers much. There are insects in the countryside. Rural life isn't what the urban couple expected but after a hiccough in their relationship they become accepted into the community. Yawn. There's a surprise. One or two moments raise a smile - the softball match played on over the unconscious body of a player laid out with a bat, for example, and, erm, um, there probably was another, somewhere.Basically there is absolutely nothing in this which Doc Hollywood didn't do ten times better, three years later.

I just LOVE this movie!
Not much more to say with regards to plot or characters as the other reviews say it all, but I have to say that I just LOVE this movie!I think that it's in part because Chevy is SO comfortable in the lead role and comes across as very likeable. All in all a really nice and heartwarming way to spend a Saturday afternoon and then some.Love it, love it, just love it!

My favourite Chevy Chase film
My favourite Chevy Chase film. It takes 20 minutes to get going but really enjoyable. I don't care much for his other films, so it's a shame this wasn't a big hit.
