The "balance bike" approach of learning music
Thanks for creating this program, Andrew! It empowers kids to make music and cultivates the interest and desire to learn more. It works! Just as we taught our kids using the balance bike approach versus the training wheels, the musicolor method allows my kids to enjoy making music on their own before having to read the traditional black/white notation. I've been using this material to teach my children over the past 2-3 years. I have my kids work on the piece until they can play "with their eyes closed" before moving on to the next song. Most songs are familiar favorites which makes it easy to internalize. My kids were able to play the songs confidently even on an "unmarked/non-color coded" keyboard. I was concerned at first if I could teach my own children the piano. This curriculum made it fun and possible. I highly recommend it!

Good method for young children
I have a 2 1/2 year old that is learning to play. I found Piano For Kids as a result of searching for addition help I was already teaching her by color. She has a 7 year old and 10 year old brother that I teach the traditional way. She plays tap hand bells and piano by colorI use a pointer and point to the colored note. She then plays the appropriate note or bell. She is happy being able to play like her brothers. She is developing s love for music and experiencing musical success.I also teach grades one through six hand bells. I use colored hand bell and colored chimes. In addition, I add theory and note reading. They are able to perform and learn rhythm as well as eye and hand coordinationI think color is one method that can provide for musical success and music appreciationMaryI gave the book 5 stars on technique for teaching playing the notes with finger muscle strengthening songs. I would rate the lyrics as 4.5 as I prefer not to teach the lyrics, " Ants in my Pants.: which is one of the songs included.I am just starting to use this book with my students. I will be better able to evaluate its effectiveness after I use it. But I am of the opinion that it will be beneficial. In fact, I have already ordered Book Two.

too easy for a 6 year old
I was disappointed in the overall content. Too much reading about and not enough for the child to do . After 2 lessons, I'm gong back to the teaching methods I've been using for years. Way too much money for a lesson book that doesn't really get you anywhere. I suppose it might work for some, but big fail my 6 year old student.

Great book for beginners and teachers of beginners!
Wasn’t sure about the method of teaching in this book at first, as this is not the way I was taught as a child. But, I just got done reading the intro and reasoning behind it and I am going to give it a try with my 7 year old. The author gives sound advice on how to teach music to young children and some of the do’s and don’ts in getting them interested and keeping them interested. What I read in just a few minutes is going to be very helpful to me as my daughter’s first music teacher and beneficial for her as she is learning the basics. I also have the perspective of being a child and learning the piano and not always loving it and at times even dreading having to practice (mandatory 30 minutes).....so I appreciate the author’s advice to not go too fast in trying to teach your child but easing into it with a short amount of time of practice every day and at a set time of day to establish routine. This makes it so it’s not so overwhelming for the child or the teacher but more of a fun thing to do. Glad I made the decision to purchase this book despite a couple of disappointed reviews from other buyers. I myself highly recommend it! Buy it!

Great for pre-readers!
Using this book to introduce my four year old to playing the piano. I love that it gets her using both hands and all fingers right away. (My six year old is using the Alfred method and I feel like it is not doing as good of a job at teaching him to use all fingers.) She and I also like how easy is for her to “read” the “music” without needing to incorporate letters, numbers, or note symbols. I think those will come naturally as she learns to read and progresses to the next level in this series. She enjoys the little songs and loves to perform for daddy and record videos of her playing for her grandparents. One downside is the need to mark colors on the piano and fingers, as others have mentioned. I went ahead and bought a pack of rainbow masking tape for the keys, and we use nail polish for her fingers and just keep them painted all the time. Not sure how it would work if you had a child who didn’t want painted nails. Overall my daughter and I are both very pleased with this method/book so far.

A great starting point
My 6 year old boy has often requested that we get out the keyboard. He plays around and makes music but I had no concept of how to teach him to play. On top of that my musician friends said that they need to be able to read in order to take lessons.I was excited to find this book and gave it to my son for Christmas. We set the keyboard up so that it can stay up in his room. We put colors on the keys and on his finger nails. H didn't spend much time playing the first time but seemed excited about it.Today, he was playing on his own without me asking him and without his fingers being "colored". He seems to understand what colors they are supposed to be even without seeing them. He played through the whole book thinking that he'd be ready for the next one. LOL. He's got a long way to go and lots of practicing to do before we jump up to the 2nd book but I'm excited that he seems motivated to be playing with it.Some of the introduction text for each lesson seems slightly more geared towards pre school but it doesn't deter from my satisfaction with the book. Looking forward to seeing what my child does with this book and the next ones!

Expected Piano Key Colour Stickers With the Package
The whole purpose of the concept is to teach little kids to play piano by colour association, yet there were no colour stickers for the piano keys included in the package. Moreover, I have no idea of where to get them. For the price I paid, they should have come with the books.

Stupid instruction
Ridiculous.. instructions state to paint the child’s finger nails the corresponding colour painted on the keys. I’d have paint everywhere every time we did a leason

Nice to start getting comfortable with piano
I had 2 kids try this book out (6 & 4 year-olds). My older child outgrew this book within a few days. The younger one took a better liking because it was color-coded and did not require reading.
