ReaL Cowboy
Great story of an old cowboy and many of his experiences. Stories cover a lot of the West...just plain interesting...hard to put down.

A fascinating look into the lives of men and the skills and heart demanded of genuine cowboys
It all starts when a young kid, fresh out of the army, picks up an old drunk hitchhiking derelict cowboy who smells to high Heaven. The lasting friendship, transference of essential skills, mutual interests, and general camaraderie are unique and most interesting. A great accounting of the times past when skill with a rope, a secure seat in a saddle, a understanding of cow sense, and overall toughness we’re but a baseline for these buckaroos, an Anglicized pronunciation of the old California word for men who rode superb reining stallions and roped grizzlies. Beautifully written and well worth the time.

great action packed book
This book and (Shadows of the West) are fun real life western action reading. I enjoyed it with the feeling I really knew all the people in the stories.

If you have ever spent any time around a cow camp, you already know the main characters or someone just like em. I really enjoyed this story.

Last Buckaroo
Having known the author, Mackey Hedges, it was a special treat to read his book. Mackey and I were best of friends during our early teens. He and his family were neighbors in Kansas. There was never a doubt that Mackey's destiny was to be a buckaroo. The great surprise was that Mackey could spin the yarns about the life of a real buckaroo in such a riveting and fascinating way. Although this type of book is one that I would not normally read, it was a great read! I hope I can reunite with Mackey and hear more about his life as a buckaroo.

True and honest
If you know anything about western lifestyle and the history of the Buckaroo you would have to appreciate the terminology and what the meanings are . luckily there's a glossery at the end where all the terminology you need is located . It was authentic Cowboy and describes the life so many of us love and admire . Very well written and and the illustrations were magnificent ! I'll probably be reading it again ! I know I will share it with my friends !

One of the best books I have read
From the first two pages of the book I was laughing, out loud, and hooked, because I have been in the same boat. If you've ever been or wonder what it was like to be a buckaroo here is the book for you. I will warn you, if you have any rambling fever in your blood, you may read this and pack up your bedroll. Thank you Mr. Hedges for taking me back to my younger years.

Excellent read
Well if you love western history you will love this book. Not a boring book of the wild west, but a true story of a family, written by the family. After visiting Wyoming twice, I can related to a lot of the descriptive in this book, but even if you haven't been, and you love a good story, you wont be disappointed. After you read this one, read Shadow of the Wind, a continuation.
