Simple for anyone to install, Works Great with POE VoIP Phones
First off, let me say that I am not an IT person. I have a pretty good working knowledge of how to configure computer setups and I can follow written instructions pretty well. But that's it. My review here is more to help regular small business owners like me, who cant necessarily afford to hire expensive IT professionals. I have a small office (2 employees, including myself) and because I work in a very rural community, it costs a ton of money to hire an IT guy from miles away to come to my office to assist me. My goal was to be able to install this switch myself without having to hire someone to assist me.My office has two VoIP phones Polycom Inc. VVX 310 6-Line Desk Phone Gigabit PoE (Power supply not included) , two network printers/scanners, two network desktop computers, a modem and router. I also occasionally use a wireless laptop in the office. It's a pretty simple setup and suits my business needs perfectly.I was able to install everything very quickly, once I figured out how the modem/router cables should be connected. The instruction sheet was not very helpful at all - it's one of those pictogram sheets - which showed that the modem should be directly connected to the switch, with the router connected to the switch. One call to Netgear customer service for help and I was good to go. Plug and play. Initially, I followed the pictogram sheet and installed the modem line to the switch, and then installed all the other equipment lines to the switch (including the router) - that didnt work. After calling Netgear, I learned that the modem should be connected to the router first (duh - that would've been my first guess, but I was following the pictogram, sigh ...), and then the router connected to the switch, with all other equipment connected to the switch. After following that instruction, everything worked like a charm. I havent noticed any loud fan noises coming from the switch, like some other reviewers noted.I am very pleased with the purchase and the ease of installation.

Great POE switch, runs my security cameras
This is a great basic POE switch. They run my Reolink cameras without an issue. I currently have 8 POE cameras running on it 24x7x365 for 3 years trouble free. The switch is affordable and reliable.

Great central switch for Small/Home Office and Gaming
I am using this switch in my network closet for my home/home office as a core switch. My requirements for a switch included features like Gigabit, POE, and had to be fully manageable. The other issue I have to deal with is constant black-outs (about 2-3/month). So I was looking for something that wouldn't be as fragile as my previous switch (which cost $5k). Yes, I do have UPS in line with the switch. I am happy with this switch so far and it is working as intended. Its interface is easy to use and has quite a few capabilities that are clearly laid out. As a fully managed switch, you get to control things at the port level if you desire. It also includes capabilities like VLANs, QoS, Port Mirroring, Port Rate Limiting, and more. I think for its price, having 16 ports, and being rack-mountable; it is a decent switch. I have had a few black-outs since setting this up, and it has handled them gracefully (plugged into the UPS). The powered ports seem to have an auto-sense feature to determine if it needs power or not. I have not seen anything whereby I can "turn off" power to those ports like some other switches, but that is not really a concern for my setup since I do not need to use any of the POE ports for non-POE endpoints.

Loud fan! Great switch!
After reading all the horror reviews about the fan noise I still decided to try this switch. When it arrived I mounted it in my rack and plugged it in. I immediately noticed how extremely loud the fan was. It sounded like something mechanically was wrong with the fan (it wasn't just fan noise - moving air). I immediately returned the switch and asked for a replacement (24 port switch this time). The replacement came next day (awesome Amazon!) and the fan was a bit quieter (albeit not by much). So I decided to buy a Noctua 40mm fan to replace the stock fan. When the 40mm Noctua fan came (I bought the 12v version) I removed the cover from the switch and removed the stock fan. I plugged the new Noctua fan in and fired up the switch... Nothing! The Noctua fan didn't spin. I then took the Noctua fan and plugged it into my server motherboard and verified that it worked fine. I compared wires on the Noctua and switches stock fan and noticed black/red were swapped. After swapping Notcua wires around I plugged into switch and with some assistance the fan spun up (but with significantly less airflow then the stock fan). I didn't like how the Noctua fan required assistance to spin up and I especially didn't like the lack of air it moved. I installed the Noctua fan and let it be for a few days. Well paranoia got the best of me so I decided to return the Noctua fan and order a different fan. In the meantime I put the stock fan back in with some padded, double-sided tape, and it seems to really help (almost enough to call it good). On a different note, the switch works great. I haven't tried PoE yet but am looking forward to that. The switch service menu was tricky to get into (needed to change the IP address) but after I figured it out it seems to be pretty user friendly.

Ditch the included software and download via 'net if you want, or use the web utility.
Need to know: Default IP Address 192.168.0.239 - set your computer to 192.168.0.x (pick any # you want) - and connect to switch. Default password is password. Once logged in, then you can make any/all adjustments on this smart switch. I had issues with the software on the CD as the firmware on the switch was newer and the CD was not able to find the switch. After I had googled a few answers online, I was able to get it up and working. Quiet and so far everything is working.

Good Solid Switch
I have been using this switch for the last 2 years as a POE/VLAN device and have had a few problems. The first one was to do with the POE and it decided to stop supplying power to one port but this was fixed by a device reboot. Another problem was a port that was configured to VLAN 1(default VLAN) decided to stop working which I never did resolve as it appeared the solution would have been a factory reset and then reconfigure the device. I also use GS108Ts and a GS110TP device as VLAN/POE devices and the web interface is far better and have a much better configuration interface. The big problem is the 1GB interface. Where I can use a GS108T to a GS108T/GS110TP over a 100 foot Cat5e cable and have a solid 1GB link a GS108T/GS110TP to this device will never fo better than 100 MBs over the same cable. The device will do 100 feet over a cat6e cable without a problem but in many cases this means recabling a system. In conclusion, good device but if you don't need the 16 ports, of of which are Poe, I would go with the GS110TP.A word on the lifetime warranty, it works without a problem... includes chat support and easy to get an RMA(used it to try and fix the 1GB issue and the replacement device had the same problem)

Use for CCTV
works great for my CCTV so good I bought a second one for another location. have a few ports leftover for other things. Plug and play no issues at all. The fan makes some slight noise nothing to worry about.

Broken by design
Apparently, if you want to configure VLANs on your shiny new JGS516PE, you have to run a special Windows-only configuration utility. That's not OK in 2018 and wouldn't have been OK in 2008. This is the Internet and standards matter. These days you really expect browser-based configuration of everything. With cryptography. Even if it's only "semi-managed" or watever. Even without browser support, it would be more reasonable even to require me to provide a TFTP server and a text configuration file than it is to assume I have a Windows machine lying around, or that if I *do* have such a machine I'm prepared to mess around with some weird proprietary program.I don't like to return things, but given that there was zero disclosure of this ridiculous limitation, and in fact the description for "Smart Managed Plus" says "Web GUI management", I'm going to make an exception this time.

I would add a fifth star if I actually knew how to exploit all features. Otherwise working well after several months use.
