These are really attractive and sturdy - excellent quality.

They arrived in flawless condition. They are substantial, heavyweight. The mats are almost a quarter inch thick. They replace a worn out set of placemats that cost almost twice as much and were not nearly the quality of these. I use placemats on my painted kitchen table, so these are destined for daily use, morning and evening. I wouldn't expect any placemat to last a lifetime under those conditions. They get smudges from fingerprints on them over the course of a couple meals. So far, a quick wipe with a dish towel restores them to like-new perfection at the end of the day. These are hard and stiff - not wobbly - and the laminated surface shows no permanent marks at all from use, at least to date. The cork backing helps hold them in place on the hard surface of the table, unlike the set they replace, which was backed with a cloth material and slid fairly freely. Nor do these scratch the table surface at all if it is free of debris when you put the mat on it. The burgundy color is beautiful and is a true classic burgundy. If these placemats last six months under the heavy use they will be subjected to in my kitchen, I will be more than happy, considering the cost especially, which per mat is a lot less than a single pack of cigarettes. And if they do last that long, when they start to wear out, I will buy a new set of the exact same thing.

These placemats are exactly what I expected them to be.

These are sturdy cork-backed placemats that look very nice on my table. However, they tend to show every mark, every drop of water. So far I have been conscientious about wiping them with a damp cloth and drying them after every use. It seems that with good care they will last. I haven't yet placed any warm plates on them. I shall see how they handle a little heat (I know that I can't place dishes directly from the oven on them). So far, so good as they say.

It looks very cheap, but the price is too high. Returned it.

We have an antique mahogany veneer dining roomiest that we use for everyday. Our placements weren't/t protecting for unexpected spills and crumbs because they were flimsy. These fit with the 1930's style and are easy to wipe down after each meal.

The price is right, but the product does not live up to the Pimpernel name. Obviously people with high ratings did not get the same product as those of us, numerous by the way, that got a placemat (made in China) that looks awful after a few months. In my case it was a single use. The top layer peels off in small bits and leaves you with white showing through on a red or black placemat. This is not an acceptable look and can never be used for company. In all fairness to the company I did reach out to them about my concerns & they replaced my black placemats only to have the same problem with the second set. I have 10 sets of Pimpernel placemats bought long ago. My Amazon purchases are the only ones that are defective. So those of you who are contemplating this purchase please consider the lower reviews as well.

Very disappointed in my purchase. The burgundy color Pimpernal placemats are not the same color as those I’ve previously purchased. Very noticeable when placed along side of the burgundy coasters I already owned. The color I received is a deep mauve, not the deep red I’ve purchased before. I have used Pimpernal placemats and coasters for decades. Unfortunately, this product is now produced in China, not England, and the quality has declined.

These are beautiful, elegant and perfectly sized to allow for a full place setting - my round placemats couldn't accommodate a setting.They wipe off easily. I look forward to enjoying them for a very long time

Very elegant placemats, fast delivery, very good quality. I am going to order more.
