I don't like the design
This has way too many compartments for me - 5 sets of zippers. And two sets of zippers open to the area which has a laptop sleeve; I don't understand that. Most of the zippers have a layer of cloth which is probably designed to protect the zippers, but it makes them harder to access. It's durable and a good deal if this is the design you want. I don't so I returned it.

Best Bag Ever
I am a connoisseur of backpacks. I am VERY picky about my backpacks and it takes me forever to pick one out and then adjust to it. I've used a lot of different kinds and a lot of different brands and styles. I had never tried High Sierra before, but this backpack looked decent for the price so I decided to try it out.I recently started college after a 5 year break to start a family. This backpack is big enough to carry my college books and notebooks. I love that the pen-holder pocket has a built in organizer - it's got several little zippered pockets within the organizer too - perfect to hold staplers, white-out, index cards, etc. My planner fits in there perfectly. I like that this pocket opens up ALL THE WAY - it makes your junk easy to access. My favorite part is the key-ring attachment. It has a buckle so you put the buckle part on your key-ring, and then you can attach your keys inside the backpack so you don't have to hunt for them as you're freezing in the snow. Perfect! There is a soft zippered compartment on the top of the backpack in between the largest section and the middle section which is perfect for holding earbuds, phones, MP3 players, and I put my wallet in there too. It's nice because it's pretty well camouflaged in the backpack which makes your stuff harder to steal. The straps are extremely comfortable and the bag is very lightweight. This is probably the most comfortable bag I've ever used. The fabric seems very durable and heavy-duty. I like that it has 2 bottle holders - one for my water, one for my Diet Coke! One of the big pockets has a very small zipper opening, which I think is kinda dumb. It's still useful, but only for smaller books. The bag also smelled REALLY BAD when I first got it. I put some of those fabric softener pellets in it and it cleared up the scent after a few hours but it was really stinky. I also don't really care for the separate laptop compartment and wish it was detachable, but I don't carry my laptop with me anyway. Some backpacks are really big, which can sometimes be a pain as it gets more difficult to pull your stuff out with the fabric folding in on itself. This backpack is the perfect size and the fabric is thick enough that it doesn't flop all over itself.Overall, I LOVE this bag. It's sturdy, comfortable, and bright and cheerful (I have a color not listed here.) It's different than the 9,000 other bags on campus. It's the perfect size for all my junk and I love all the separate compartments to keep everything organized. I foresee it lasting for most of my college career, definitely.I used to be a fan of only JanSport bags. This bag pwns my JanSport by about 1,000 points. All hail High Sierra!

Nice backpack
I bought this backpack for a trip my wife and I went on to China. I wanted something that would carry a lot of stuff, but not be too big to use as a personal item on the airplane. It worked out well and the backpack held up perfectly. I had it REALLY packed with heavy items so we didn't have to pay extra on our way back for overweight checked bags. Eight flights and a ton of walking over about two weeks. When we were walking around I used this pack to carry my midsized digital camera, along with lots of items we needed on a daily basis (paperwork, food, drinks, small umbrella, compact ponchos, etc). I would have prefered some of the large compartments to be broken up into two compartments and there are two zippers on top where you really only need one, as they both go into the same compartment. Overall, it worked out well. There are definitely things I would have liked different with this backpack. Knowing what I know now, the way I use a backpack, I would pick a different backpack if I were to buy one for a trip like that again. I'm not sorry I bought it, it did everything I needed it to do. With the way this backpack is laid out it would be perfect for someone in school to haul a laptop and books, along with a bunch of other smaller items. Everyone has their own list of criteria for the perfect backpack, depending on their needs. The best way to buy a backpack is to actually handle lots of different ones to be able to look in the compartments and look the stitching. Have a list of items (and their 3-dimensional sizes) that you will need to have in it. If you can take the actual item with you when you are looking at them, that is even better. We tend to have an altered sense of what will actually fit into a space until it is actually in there. Once you have come up with the exact one you want, shop for price (and service). You can't go wrong with Amazon. I buy a ton of stuff through them.
