Not perfect but a great alternative to the Otterbox
I've always wanted an Otterbox but unfortunately there was never one available for my Touchpad or HTC Evo (at the time at least.) I'm always so paranoid about my electronics and the idea of an "ultimate" case was always appealing to me in theory, but I could never justify the price. I mention this because let's be honest, almost everyone looking at this Trident case is doing so as a cheaper alternative to the Otterbox.I haven't seen the Otterbox Commuter case for the iPhone 5 in person but from all the pictures and videos I can already tell that the Trident Aegis case looks better. The curves, lines and design of the silicone & hard plastic look sleek & modern in comparison to the plain flat back of the Otterbox, which looks bulkier as a result. The rubber on the Aegis also goes over the area with the home button which not only looks better aesthetically, it helps with protection even more.According to reviews the new Otterbox case seems to have problems letting you press the power button as well as having issues with the port covers staying closed. So far the ports on the Trident fit snug and stay closed, and the power & home buttons are easily pressed with the case on. In fact it's kind of fun to press the volume & power buttons, the response from the buttons is quite pleasant. I find myself doing it even when I don't need to. Some people have also reported problems with internet signal strength with the Otterbox on, I have yet to test this with the Trident. This case does have its problems though. For one the silicone parts are lint magnets (a problem found in nearly every silicone case including the Otterbox.) The included screen protector is also completely worthless, not only does it refuse to stay on but it's made out of fairly cheap and stiff material. I've had multiple screen protectors and this is by far the worst, so if you plan on getting this case because it comes with a screen protector be prepared for the cost of buying a separate one. There's also a slight warp/gap that has appeared on the part of the hard case that goes over the volume buttons, and the silicone area that goes over the home button is pretty loose. Despite this it doesn't seem like the case would easily fall off. As far as durability goes I haven't had the chance to test some drops but it does feel pretty sturdy and instills me with confidence. Again I have no way of comparing it to the proven strength of the Otterbox, and there doesn't seem to be anything "special" about the hard plastic part when it is separated from the silicone. The real deciding factors would be with actual drop tests and customer service. I've heard some people were able to replace their Otterbox cases as much as 5 times over the course of its usage, I'm not sure if Trident has a similar guarantee/customer service (although they did offer to replace my screen protector a week after I contacted them about it. I have yet to receive it.)Through Amazon the prices were almost identical. The Otterbox goes for around $27 and I bought my Trident for $24, but it has since gone down to $20 and even $17.50 WITH free shipping. If you see it at those prices BUY IT - this case is way better than any case in that price range. If you're on the fence about "hiding" the sleekness of the iPhone 5 with this case don't be, NO case out there would provide any kind of protection without sacrificing the elegant design of the iPhone. My friend even has a see-through case that has a rubber "bumper" around the edge for her phone and it still looks worse than this case.Keep in mind that you'll have to calculate the cost of buying a screen protector (although the Gorilla Glass 2 on the iPhone 5 is INSANELY scratch resistant already) but it's hard to resist this case at $17. Time will tell of its durability and their customer service but based on looks and price this beats the Otterbox hands down. I can see myself changing this to a 4 after a couple of months of usage, the design is really starting to grow on me. This case would be an easy 5 stars with a worthwhile screen protector & a few videos of someone that has tested its toughness.

Fits well, Easy to Use, Looks Nice: 4.5 stars. *Updated
I love my iPhone 5. It's beautiful and fast and Apple-y. I've also dropped it a couple times, luckily without doing irreparable damage, but I didn't want the next drop to be its last. I've been looking for a case since I got the phone but could never find one that wasn't overly bulky, or crazily overpriced, or un-usefully flimsy... I also wanted something that would make the iPhone really visible (because my black iPhone blends into dark surfaces remarkably well) and wasn't hideously ugly. Though I drooled over the beautiful cases on Etsy and made by some big companies like Speck, they didn't look sturdy enough for me.This case is really eye catching even though it's simple; I love the shade of green I got (do not expect it to work with the 5c, or the 5s if you want to use the fingerprint scanner). It shows the Apple logo and has nice port covers that stay in place, unlike my boss's (admittedly much used) Otterbox. I also have a feeling that the port covers will, to an extent, help prevent stray water drops from frying the phone's delicate electronics, though probably won't help if it takes a dip in the pool. I also like that the screen protector is a separate piece rather than integrated.I've had this case for about two weeks.Just some FYIs:- The case is in two parts-- Black/grey plastic supports the back and helps stabilize the rubberized inner piece, keeping it aligned appropriately. This part also helps the phone slide in and out of pockets more easily than all-rubber cases.-- Colored (in my case green) rubbery inner liner protects the vulnerable corners and helps you get a good grip on the sides, plus allows for depressing the various buttons and makes the port covers. It's got snappy elastic memory and hasn't started to slouch (yet).- Port covers flip away slightly more than 90 degrees and snap tightly into place, surrounded by the outer case.- Includes a screen protector film and application instructions/tool.- Use is simple:-- If you don't have a screen protector, put it in place first (I didn't use theirs as I'd already had one but will use it eventually).-- Put the inner rubber liner in place-- Slide into the outer plastic case-- Snap the port covers into place (can take a bit of squishing to get the volume buttons/ringer switch cover seated properly but it will happen without much struggle)- I don't recommend trying to put both parts of the case on simultaneously. The rubber inner tends to get stuck on the phone.- Doesn't seem to affect my ability to use the full area of the screen. Edges are just as responsive as without the case because the beveled screen surround reduces the bulk so my fingers can reach the screen.- Has screening over the mic/speaker so audio is relatively unimpaired... Siri seems just as capable of misunderstanding me as she always was.Hope this review helped! Anything changes, I'll note it here.***UPDATE***Still loving this case. The rubber's stretched slightly but still fits well and looks pretty new. There is one place the rubber is nicked but it doesn't affect the usability. The most used port (charging port) is about to lose its flip cover but it has been a year. I'll probably replace this with a new one when the port cover breaks off. A year and a half is a great lifespan for a case like this, at this price, and several drops (including some recently) have resulted in zero damage.

Super protective case
I've had this case for my iphone 5 for about 10 days now. It was simple to put on - an inner silicone rubber liner that encases the entire body of the phone and edges of the glass face, then a hard plastic cover that sort of snaps over that.I like that it protects all openings/ports with a sealed rubber "door", and all buttons are covered with rubber buttons. Use of the buttons (volume and power) is not at all hindered, and actually seem more positive to the touch. The door covering the charging port opens easily and stays out of the way when inserting the charger. There is also a door that covers the mute switch on the side, as well as one covering the headphone port. The rubber extends up the bottom of the face to cover the home button as well, and has its own indentation that provides positive feel for that button.A standard type stick-on screen protector came with it, and I am actually quite pleased with it. It has the look and feel of the bare screen, and fit perfectly. You can't see the edges the way the case wraps around it.I think I got the most protection for the money with this case. It adds a "little" bulk to the phone, but doesn't take too much away from its sleekness. I truly believe my phone can survive nearly any average type drop or fall. My only complaint is that it is a little "grippy" when pulling it from my pants pocket, but I don't keep anything else in that pocket anyway, so no biggie. Otherwise I'd give it 5 stars. This is a great deal for the quality protection it provides.

Strong and does its job brilliantly!
I have had this phone cover for nearly 6 years now and the only reason I no longer have it is I have the phone to my mum as I upgraded. I have dropped this phone so many times in so many places and it is as new. This cover bounces brilliantly! It also has a lovely lip so that the screen is less likely to crack if you sit on it. I bought a new phone and got a different type of case. Dropped it this morning and the screen has cracked. Will be getting a Trident case as soon as I have the screen repaired. Only problem I have ever had is that the plug for the charging inlet came off after a few years. Not a problem & it has had a hard life!

Looks like this should stop or at least reduce the damage ...
Looks like this should stop or at least reduce the damage when I drop my phone on cement floors.does not make the phone as bulky as I thought it would which is good.

Well made and for the most part, well designed
I bought the Trident Ageis Case to ensure that my new iPhone 5 was well protected while working outside the office. It's a great looking case and setup takes between 30 seconds and 10 minutes deepening on your ability of adding the screen protector without any of those pesky dust and air bubbles! The plastic seems sturdy, the silicone is responsive enough to continuous opening and closing of the port covers and the dust guard on the speaker is a nice touch too.My only comment would be the huge circular gap on the rear of the item which exposes the back of your iPhone & apple logo to the outside world. From a design perspective it looks nice but If you're looking for 100% protection for your iPhone this might not be the case for you.On the whole, I'm very happy with this case and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for good protection for your phone at a reasonable price.
