A great storage solution to add to a mini PC for a DIY NAS
My TrueNAS Community Edition software is managing 3 Team group SSD's in RAIDZ1 with this unit. It doesn't seem to match the actual serial numbers, but it does give each drive a unique number, so it's easy to determine which is which by socketing the drives one at a time.It is a bit noisy. The nose is like a soft"whoosh" from the air being forced through a hollow chamber. Not annoyingly loud, and not an irritating sound, so it is easy (for me) to learn to ignore it.

Very well made HDD enclosure.
Overall outstanding product. I was concerned about the reports of loud fan noise, but did not find that to be the case. This is being used in my home theater for audio files and noise is not an issue. Tried hard drives on Windows 11 machine and worked perfectly. Also worked very well on Linux system (ROCK) running Roon software.

Great buy tonally noisy.
I have several "versions" of these docks for some older hard drives that I keep hanging on. This one is by far the noisiest. I have to take a star off for that. YES I want my drives to be cool but this little fan is pretty obnoxious. And This sort of thing rarely bothers me. I have 2 big unRAID servers, and 4 other full-sized PC's in this room. This little drive bay sticks out mainly because of the frequency of the fan noise. It's a little more mid-range sound which makes it seem louder than everything else. Still a good unit and a solid performer.

Excellent option to expand storage without breaking the bank!
Bought this to use with a mini PC running Proxmox, specifically a Server 2022 VM to act as a backup for my media library, documents, etc.Drives used are spare 2x 2TB and 1x 4TB WD Reds I had lying around. Getting them in the trays isn't too bad if you use the screws method by removing the plastic locking mechanisms (they just snap off). Was literally plug in and go-Proxmox saw each drive as its own USB interface, so I could pass specific ones through to specific VMs if I need to. Super easy to set up and use.Transfer rates from drive to drive in the chassis is as expected (90-110MB/s), and so far I haven't had any issues with drives disconnecting or dropping randomly. For extra storage at both this price point and convenient size (the unit is no bigger than a toaster), I can definitely recommend this product.

Easy to use.
Easy to use, worked on both 20tb HDD and 4tb SSDs, pull out the drawer, slot in the drive, push the drawer back in, that's it. Also, the fan isn't loud, it's like a low hum. Great build quality. I do wish that the cables were longer though.

It Just Works
I had multiple external hard drives. I wanted to consolidate them all into one big set of drives. I got this enclosure with 4 20TB drive. It was simple to set up. It is very quiet. It just works. I would recommend connecting it to a Thunderbolt 4 port on your computer and not on a hub, since the speed is the fastest connecting directly to the computer.

Easy set up. Will buy more.
This was the only enclosure I could find that could handle 20tb drives. I bought the 2 bay just to make sure and then bought the 6 bay unit. I use it to back up my 100tb compelleant array. Everything was easy peasy. I'll probably get another 6 bay although I can only find the 8 bay now, but that is fine. I plan to daisy chain them for redundant backup. We just moved and still unpacking, but these were some of the first to get set back up.

Garbage, Don't Buy
Here's an update, my original review is below. Avoid this thing at all costs. Despite my initial disappointment, I left this 8 Bay enclosure connected. Within just over 4 weeks of use, and just after the return windows closed, it began to destroy data and corrupt perfectly good drives. The RED LED's were flashing, which apparently means RAID rebuilding, but I did not order a RAID enclosure, I orderd the "JBOD" ("just a box of drives") version, so there is absolutely no reason any RAID striping/mirroring functions should ever take place. I booted my computer one morning to find 3 of the 8 drives bricked, all at once, due to this insanity. Precious files I've had for decades now gone forever.*** DO NOT BUY CENMATE!!! ***Original review from one month ago:I bought the top of the line 8 bay version. I find this product disappointing and may end up returning it. On the plus side, it is good looking, and I appreciate the LED status lights for each bay. But there are SO Many issues. Here are just a few.I have this attached to a PC that is only a few weeks old, running Win11 Pro. The hard drives that I have installed in it were previously in individual Sabrent enclosures running through a powered USB 3.0 hub. I wanted to get everything in one enclosure, connected with one wire and no hub, to reduce the clutter. Sadly, the old way worked far better. With everything in the Cenmate box, disk utilities like Disk Genius and EaseUS are suddenly freezing mid-operation and reporting phantom errors. This has me worried for the safety of the data on the drives. The "tool-less" caddies are inferior in design to all tool-less caddies I have come across in PC cases going back 20 years or so. The fans are far from silent and the run constantly, regardless of whether any of the drives are in use. The box is dumb, it does not go to sleep when your PC is powered down, you have to switch it off using a rocker switch at the bottom rear. You may see references in the reviews to a second USB port that allows you to daisy chain the Cenmate to other devices - sadly the most expensive 8 bay model does not have that capability. The "manual" is not very informative and it is stapled together. The two supplied cables are very short.I have been reverting to my individual enclosures for cloning, partition changes, formatting, etc., since I can't trust the Cenmate for anything other than reading data (and I am not at all sure it deserves my trust for that). So now I have more clutter than ever.It is nice looking, but at the listed price it should have much better functionality. I am not sure yet whether I will return it, but I am quite sure that I would not buy one again. NOT recommended.
