Oh so dark and twisty
Rhiannon’s back and killing for two…’‘In Bloom’ by C.J. Skuse is Book 2 in her Sweetpea series of pitch black comic crime thrillers.‘Sweetpea’ had ended on a cliffhanger and this novel opens at the same point, resolving the scene. However, as a result it is difficult to say much about the plot without entering spoiler territory for those who haven’t read Book 1 and they do need to be read in order.Still, it’s fair to say that Rhiannon Lewis is keen to continue to work her way through her list of candidates for the chop (sometimes literally). However, now there’s a small voice disrupting her plans. Not her conscience but the baby she is carrying.Again, a very dark comedy. The interference from the ‘grain of rice’ as it grows week by week, noted in each chapter heading, to peach-sized and beyond was very funny, and especially enhanced in its audiobook edition as Georgia Maguire breaks in every now and then with a wary ‘Mummy, what are you doing?’Having enjoyed the first two books in the series I now have Books 3-4 lined up on my Kindle for reading in the near future.

I enjoyed the sequel but not as much as the ....
First book, do not get me wrong this was a good book and I love how it ended and where it is going to go next but most of the book just in my view was not as JUICY as the first one, Also the TV series is due out very soon so I wanted to get the first two novels read just in case the TV series is the first two novels and then I can watch the show and see how it compares to the books, I know there are two more to read but I am going to wait now for the tv show and see how that goes, I would still recommend this book because it is not rubbish in anyway I just didn't find it as compelling as the first book.

In Bloom - C J Skuse
In Bloom - C J Skuse🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Rihannon is back with a bang!This sequel takes on the same layout as the first novel. Where we are invited inside Rihannon's diary and we get to live her life alongside her.Rihannon is on a roll. She has managed to palm off her kills and frame her ex-fiance Craig for the crimes. He has now been picked up by the police and has been arrested and retained without bail and awaiting to be charged. As if that wasn't enough drama, Rihannon has dug an even deeper hole and after an affair with her colleague AJ, which leaves her pregnant she has to get rid of him the only way she knows how, so she bunks him off on the sly.The local and national press have caught wind that survivor Rihannon is now living alongside a notorious serial killer. The presumptive grandparents, Elaine and Jim offer up a home for Rihannon and she finds herself moving in with them playing along with the fact that they think they are the grandparents to the unborn child.Rihannon finds that as her pregnancy develops the baby acts as some sort of conscience, and everytime she has the urge to kill, the baby starts talking to her and threatening her. Put off by the baby's noise she tries to keep her urges under control. However, we all know that this doesn't last long and it isn't long before Rihannon can no longer resist. The police are investigating the murders and are continously interviewing Rihannon and she is being rumbled. Will she be uncovered?Again, jam packed with humour. A laugh a minute but still ridiculously dark and twisty. Skuse has really gone to town on this series, I love it. I have now just started the third one as I was lucky enough to receive an ARC.Lookout for my review. 🖤

a bit lack lustre in comparison to its predecessor
Once I finished ‘Sweetpea’ I was SO utterly hooked I just HAD to download ‘Bloom’! CJ Skuse has a wicked sense of humour and has created a truly unique and compelling character in Rhiannon.For me, ‘Bloom’ just felt a bit lack lustre in comparison to its predecessor. The humour was there but the darker side seemed to have diluted in the second instalment. The book felt far too focused on her pregnancy and (strangely) the bible!It’s a tricky book to review because I genuinely did enjoy it. But I just felt it didn’t compare to ‘Sweetpea’.

I probably shouldn't be enjoying these books quite so much...
I loved Sweatpea, the first Rhiannon book, and this was just as good. So, so funny, dark and immersive - and full of surprises and bits that make you say 'Noooo!' And yet I found myself actually wanting her to get away with it.It's a worry.Have already bought the third book in the series, and can't wait to start it and see what on earth Rhiannon is going to do next.(Just one tiny niggle - lie, lay and laid are sometimes confused, which took me out of the story momentarily. And 'I span Elaine a yarn' - that one made me laugh, though, so I didn't mind it!)

What Rhiannon did next
“In Bloom” is the follow up book to “Sweetpea” and once again we are privy to the thoughts and actions of Rhiannon Lewis, our friendly serial murderer. The book is part diary, part murder story and totally originalThe writing is crisp and very clever, so clever in fact that every so often you will find yourself siding with our murderess, and wanting to kill some of the other characters she encounters.At times I laughed out loud, as I did with the first book. I would advise anyone to read “Sweetpea” first.Even though it is very absorbing, DO NOT buy this book if you are squeamish or offended by bad language and the use of slang. If you do enjoy a murder story, that is probably not like anything that you may have read previously, this book is highly recommended.

I just finished In Bloom, the sequel we all deserved after Sweetpea. I read this book in one night, as I did with sweetpea... I just adore Rihannon as a character and the ending to this book didnt disappoint. I pray this isnt the last we'll see of rhiannon.

A quick, fun read
I loved this book. Just like its predecessor it was witty, exciting and quite insightful.

I devoured this book.
This is the continuation of the first book, 'Sweet Pea' and it's just as good! I found myself sympathizing with the main character who happens to be a psychopath. Honest, brutal and suspenseful. Loved this series. This author will go far.

Awfu;
This author should have stopped with her first book about this character. This one was sophomoric and way over dramatic. I could not even finish after about half way. Not worth my time....
