Best Disc Brake Caliper tool
I've spent years prying open my sram calipers to install my brake pads with misc tools. I knew there had to be something out there that would do the job. I was able to in minutes install my new brake pads and spread the calipers open to get the system working perfectly. This is a game changer...

works great but narrow
got this for my travel took kit with the real sram one to leave at home. was a bit disappointed at how narrow it is. would probably give me issues on dual poston calipers. like what I have on my mtb.

Same design as the big guys
Similar design to the name brand. Works better than any home method (butter knife/tire lever). Highly recommend if your a home mechanic.

Works Great, Very Impressive
Being a bicycle mechanic back in the day, but being new to the newer technologies on bikes these days, I've had to add a few tools to my war chest in order to keep my new mountain bike in tip-top shape and this tool is one of the recent ones I purchased to make it easier to replace the disc brake pads. The tool is built with quality and is quite easy to use - it's pretty self-explanatory on how to use, but the instructions are easy to follow as well. I like that the tool is built out of aluminum and has a nice blue anodized finish. It was quite easy placing this in the disc brake caliper and screwing down the wedge to open the brake calipers up. Once they were separated enough, I was able to easily replace the brake pads which is pretty cool. Overall, the tool works great and is built to last a long, long time. Great tool.

Way better than a screwdriver
In the past I've used other tools to push back the pistons when changing brake pads, but a dedicated tool like this is much better. It makes it very easy to get the pistons fully retracted. One note: Because of the way this extends when you expand it I'm not sure how well it would work for brakes that aren't open on both sides. This wasn't a problem on the Shimano XT brakes where I tested it, but I think it might be an issue for some other brakes. Something to keep in mind.

Works but may need a different tool to set it up
So watching the video on this item helps with learning how to use it. First, it's requires the pin/bolt that holds the brake pads in the calipers. That bolt guides the tool as it separates the pads. More importantly, the tool needs enough space between the pistons to get the tool in between them. If you happen to squeeze the brake levers without a block or if the pads were worn down to the metal, then the tool may not fit and you would need something else to spread the pistons out enough to fit the tool in. Once the tool is in and the pin/bolt is installed, the tool works well. This is a generic brand of a tool that I believe SRAM licensed. The generic is significantly less expensive. It is made of aluminum alloy though so feels sturdy and using the tool doesn't really require a lot of stress on the tool so I anticipate it will last just as long.

A tool I didn’t know I needed.
I have to admit, I’m somewhat skeptical of all the different unique tools around the bike shop. Sometimes I feel like more conventional tools are a better, cheaper option. That was my mindset going into this press tool, but I have to say, this is extremely convenient for pushing those pistons back when you’re changing pads. I’ll also add, if you have a stuck piston, this is the tool for the job. It’s easy to use, very straightforward and well made. It’s machined nicely and doesn’t feel flimsy. Fits perfect into a set of Shimano XTR calipers.
